I was hoping we wouldn't go the timetravel route. But oh well.

I just feel like Blizzard is at its best when we're doing new stuff, not repeating WC3 (And 2 and 1 and...) ad nauseam.

Please tell me that trial isn't from an official source.

Because I literally just went from "Huh, I'll probably resub for this" to "I'm not even going to bother tracking WoW news ever again."

[EDIT]

Hey, look, a "skip to 90" option. I didn't think they'd actually do it, but I'm happy they did.

Yup, I see the source. It's official.

Okay, unless it's a level 91 (96? What the hell is the cap now?) quest to kill Garrosh, literally no chance of me coming back.

From MMO-C, ongoing WoW panel:

Quote:

  • Garrosh will be put on trial and escape before a verdict. He is going back in time, altering the current timeline slightly.
  • Garrosh's goal is to stop the Orcs from drinking the blood of Mannoroth and building the Iron Horde using technology from the present.
  • The end of this expansion is going to spill over into the next one. Many more expansions are lined up now.

They're playing timeline games now, too?

Seriously, f*** the writers.

Looks like Garrosh is taking some notes from Kael'thas. Smiley: laugh

On a more serious note the only way he could escape is if he received help from a certain black dragon. Also the only other option that he can see when it comes to saving Azeroth would be taking Garrosh back in time and helping him build an army.

Still incredibly cheesy and doomed to have massive plot holes that even Therazane could fit in.

Edit: Wrathion is going to be an end tier boss this expansion. Calling it now.

I just don't get the writers anymore.

Cataclysm, MoP, and now WoD... that's 3 Horde-centric expansions in a row. And they're adding MORE hordes on top of it. It's just stupid. It's a bad use of assets, and I'm not seeing many people online pleased at the idea of yet another expansion exploring Orcs. It's a good theme, but holy hell you have to change it up and explore other themes at the same time.

Then they decide to take a universally hated character and continue exploring his redemption story? Literally no one cares. No one. No one cares if Garrosh ends up good or bad. People were relieved he turned out bad, because they were happy it gave them the chance to kill him and be done with it. The percentage of players that would have had an issue with Garrosh being the final boss, even if he wasn't a bad guy, is like 1% lower.

And then, even though their sub numbers are plummeting and they really need to go big with some content people want to play, they decide to revisit old content instead of offer something epic and cool and featuring the major villains players have been waiting a decade to fight.

I KNOW who those characters they put on the slides are, because I read the goddamn books, and I don't care. Is your average player going to care who 7 assorted Orcs who should have been dead already in the timeline they've been playing in for a decade are? HELL NO. Because they weren't interesting enough to keep alive in the first place.

Meanwhile, they've been rapidly degrading likable characters and making them increasingly difficult to identify with, and killing off cast members that players actually liked.

I just don't understand it. At all. There seems to be no guiding principles, or desire to connect with their audience. It's the job of the writers to create openings into a narrative that are interesting and encourage players to dig deeper, not to punish players for bothering to get involved, or to make things as unrewarding as possible.

A timeline change is literally just one big **** you to the story so far. If you're going to introduce that element, it invalidates all the story that players have gone through. Because now it just HAPPENS that certain events remain the same.

But then you instantly get a crapton of plot holes. Why not stop Arthas from falling? Why not stop Ner'zhul from trusting the demons? Why not stop Kel'thuzad from studying Necromancy? Why not go back and warn Kil'Jaedan and Archimonde and Velen while their hearts are still pure?

No, instead you go back to one relatively insignificant moment, and change a relatively insignificant detail, for no good reason other than it sets up the dominos like you want them.

It's a pathetic plot device, and I'm actually angry now.

Don't make me paperclip your neck.

Overall though, I would have love to see them going forward rather than back. There's plenty of evil still threatening the world, and why we have to go back in time to a quasi-random point is beyond me too. I'm hoping there's some significance there they just haven't revealed yet and it all gets tied in nicer, but you know if you see something that doesn't make sense...

Hmm looks like they are going to expand on what they did with Pandaria farms and turn it into player housing.

Quote:
Garrisons

Build your own base on Draenor, WoW version of Housing.
Your friends can come and see it, trade resources.
Collect followers and send them on missions. Name them!
Customize your base. Pick the zone and buildings
Offline progression (days to weeks)
Integrated into the world, no loading screens.
Allows you to get epic gear, your own land, limited access to professions you don't have.
You can build a mine in your base and go and mine, or send followers to go mine for you.
Your garrison can be expanded over three tiers. Each expansion gives you more plots of land.
You can move your garrison later.
Collect trophies and build monuments. Access them by completing achievements. Mount a rare spawn's head in your Town Hall.
Buildings have unique bonuses, such as reducing the recovery time for your followers after a mission or a free resurrection in the world once a day. These can be upgraded and customized with specializations after three tiers of upgrades. This is like talents for your building.
The Inn lets you find new followers every day. It comes with a kitchen that has a cooking NPC. The specializations let you pick Tank, DPS, or Healer followers.
There are three tiers of art for every building, inside and outside change with each upgrade.
Alliance and Horde get unique art for buildings.

I don't know how much Burning Legion there will be. So far, it seems to be more of Orc Hitler and his shenanigans, though BL may show up later.

They're being cagey about the big bad. So it's probably going to be BL, or another random character they decide needs to go crazy.

Q: Will you be making any changes to what Stats are available?
One of our goals for Warlords of Draenor is to make the act of finding and collecting loot even more exciting for players. With that in mind, we’re adding some fun new stats to gear, such as Movement Speed and Cleave, which gives you a chance to do extra damage or healing to additional nearby targets. In addition, we’ll be retiring a few stats that players don’t find very enjoyable to manage, such as Hit and Expertise. We’re also making improvements to armor itemization that will make it easier to share armor pieces across classes. We’ll have more details to share as development continues.

C'mon magic find stat...

I don't see how that doesn't become something where you have an AoE weapon and a single-target weapon. Sure, why not carry around 4 different daggers just to be accepted into the PuG?
