Haven't messed with archaeology in a long time. Apparently it was updated within the past year to be easier to lvl. I am at 235ish right now. I get skillpoints from finding artifacts (seems like pre change I didn't). Am I still better to hold off solving them till a higher skill, or does it really matter anymore?

Arch was improved in that you get to dig up 6 sets of fragments now (previously 3), per digsite, and the # of frags per dig was upgraded to 5-9 each. So, it is fairly easy to regularly solve a common relic at a single digsite.

Afaik, some of the epics still require a min level in arch to even get them to appear for solving (Zinrokh (sp?) I'm looking at you :P).

As for MoP changes, common artifacts from Pandaria can be 'crated' and turned in (at exalted with Lorewalkers, easy to do) for a box of 5-9 fragments of any non-Pandarian race. Helps in going back to those Tolvir epics.

To answer your question: no. There is a 200 artifact piece limit per race. So if you have 200 Troll artifact pieces and dig at a troll site, you get the "you can't carry any more" message. Additionally, solving Azeroth (EK and Kalimdor) artifacts I think only gives you skill points up to level 300. I know for a fact that solving old world artifacts will not skill you up after 525; you need MoP solves. Luckily, each solve gives you multiple points. It's not too hard to skill them up, especially once you have flying.

As was mentioned, some rare items won't even appear until you hit a certain level of skill; but since there's a cap on how many artifact pieces you can hold, you might as well just solve them ASAP.

Solving all races gives skill up to 525 (unless they changed that in 5.0.5).

You can totally level on EK/Kalimdor all the way up to 525, which is why a lot of people stick with Kalimdor; there are so many Night Elf digsites there that leveling is fast and easy.

Ah, that may be so then. I was already at 525 when MoP started, and didn't get any solves from old world stuff, so I assumed they restricted it by level range Smiley: frown
