Lich King question?Follow

#1 Aug 02 2012 at 10:40 PM Rating: Decent
So I gotta lore question about the Lich King; hope this is the right place to post this, but yeah so:

So if the Lich King was created by the Burning Legion to unleash the Scourge in order to help the Burning Legion take over Azeroth, and Arthas fused with the Lich King, and then the Lich King/Arthas was free from the influence of the Burning Legion, what were his motives for then attempting to proceed and take over the world and spread the plague?

Once Arthas and Ner'zhul merged:
Quote:
While he dreamed, Arthas banished his humanity and suppressed Ner'zhul's spirit, allowing him to become the dominant personality of the Lich King.
Banishing your humanity has kind of an effect on a person.

In other words: Arthas went full ****** psycho in order to banish Ner'zhul, which worked, but left Arthas/The Lich King... well, psychotic.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

A interesting little side note from wowpedia.

Quote:
Sylvanas Windrunner eventually visited the Frozen Throne to confirm for herself that Arthas was dead. Upon discovering that Bolvar was now the new Lich King, she became enraged, as she feared this "puppet king" might one day use his new, inexhaustable power to twist the world to his own ends. She slammed her fist into the frozen casket around Bolvar, feeling this a defeat more than a victory. A crack began to form from her attack.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we have to fight him again in a future expansion. Or have him help us kill some "ultimate" bad guy.

I don't know much about the lore, but I thought the Lich King was the 'ultimate' bad guy. Then, Blizz ran out of ideas so they made Deathwing the new, 'more ultimate' bad guy. I can't imagine what the 'Super Supreme Ultimate' bad guy would be.

Remember the scourge was a tool created by the burning legion to help take over worlds. The lich king was just the leader of said scourge here on Azeroth. So naturally this guy would make the lich king look like a joke.

It should also be noted that while the lich king is really powerful in his own right, Deathwing is technically stronger since was the earthwarder and can do nasty things to the planet.

Deathwing was always around before Cataclysm, just like the Lich King was always around before WotLK. However, the last time Deathwing was really a character was WCII, if I recall, which mean that a lot of players didn't really know who he was. People claim that he was an asspull, but trust me, he was certainly around in lore.

Sargeras is the Don Corleone of the Warcraft Badass League. I mean, his buddy was like "Lol, Dalaran sucks; I'll destroy it with my fist!"

Arthas, despite being in command of an immortal army of undead, was still only a minion of a minion of Sargeras.

Yeah, Sargeras is pretty badass.

Who was the extra minion? From what I've read, Kil'jaeden created the Lich King and Kil'jaeden is Sargeras' main man.

Aye Kil'jaeden created the Lich King. Arthas ended up being a puppet of the Lich King, a physical being to act as the instrument. Got to remember Ner’zhul is the true Lich King but since he has no physical body he needs someone to control.

According to wowpedia, Arthas consumed Ner’zhul but I have my doubts about that. Considering Bolvar warned Tirion to tell everyone that Bolvar and the Lich King is dead and that no one should know what happened leads me to believe that Ner’zhul is not gone. Arthas was mearly a physical representation of Ner’zhul.

I think people are confusing Kel'Thuzzad with Kil'jaeden. Kil'jaeden is indeed Sargeras' main man. Archimonde was too, before he was destroyed. Both of them were originally brothers and best friends with the dude that leads the Draenei now, but Sargeras convinced them to join him and they would get great powers.

Yeah Archy, Killy and Velly were the three eredar leaders. Sargeras came along and recruited Archy and Killy. Velly figured out what Sargeras truly was and ran away with a group of eredar. Thus began the chase to catch Velly and the resulting **** storm that came from the chaos that followed.

I think Bolvar's desire to keep his survival as the new Lich King a secret was due to him being a hero of the Alliance. Telling the public that "By the way, the hero guy you all love, he's now the ruler of the undead, and let's hope his willpower is stronger than Arthas's or we're all screwed, lols!" might have sent people into a bit of a panic.
