Its been a few weeks now sincie I came back to WoW and this weekend I noticed I am the only one using the "normal" DK flying mount or Griffen on my toons. I see a lot of different Drakes and Dragons out there.

I tried googleing this question but coulent find a clear answer so I am giving it a shot here.

What are the easier dragon / Drake flying mounts to solo? My guild is made up of RL Family members and we don't raid or have the time to camp something for several weeks 24 /7 to get one. At most the Wife and I can duo ( or rarely 2 box ) something if needed. I found several guides for this , that and the other I just dont know whitch direction to go.

Red Drake is purchasable, just put on the tabard and run some instances.

Bronze Drake should be pretty easy to get for a partial group of 85s.

Netherwing Drakes will take about 40 hours of soloing quests if you're unlucky finding eggs.

Green Proto-Drake will just involve some questing and a bit of luck.

Drake of the West Wind can be purchased with Tol Barad tokens and reputation.

The Phosphorescent Stone Drake is a 100% drop off a rare spawn in Deepholme.

Vial of the Sands can be bought, turns your character into the Sandstone Drake, and you can carry a passenger. Granted, it probably costs upwards of 40k gold on the AH Smiley: lol

Netherdrakes come from netherwing rep and are soloable as long as you have the patience for a couple weeks worth of dailies. Same with the tol barad drake.

Bronze drake may be soloable/duoable at 85 if you can beat the timer. Blue drake definitely is but it has a low drop rate. Red drake can be bought from a vendor if you're exalted with Wyrmrest.

You're not going to be able to solo it (I don't think), but if you can get a run for Heroic: The Culling of Stratholme together, you could have a drake in <25 minutes, with 100% drop rate. I'm assuming of course that you can beat the timer, but it's not that hard to do in a group.

You can also go for something more special like the Hippogriff from Cenarion rep in Outlands or the Nether Rays from Sha'tari Skyguard rep. It's always fun to be different.

Just a question for anyone who owns a Nether Ray mount, have you noticed in the past few patches they have broken the camera on the Nether Rays? As soon as I take off my camera slides up so my character is only just peeking above my actionbars, its really annoying and gives an awkward camera angle and has driven me to never use my Nether Rays anymore.

Most of these have been mentioned already, but I got the following completely solo:

- Cenarion war hippogriff
- Red drake
- Netherdrakes in assorted colors
- Albino drake

The last one is the reward for having 50 mounts (flying or ground), which sounds like a lot but I have NO mounts from dungeons, raids, etc. It's fairly easy to get solo if you get all your faction's racial mounts, all the talbuks, and a few PVP/extra mounts from various sources.

I believe the Argent Tournament also has flying mounts you can get but I don't know much about it because I never cottoned to all that lancey-jousty stuff.

Edit: BTW I got to exalted with Wyrmrest for the red drake without championing in dungeons, just via the quests, without it being a huge grind. Cenarion was worse.

You guys wouldn't want to forget the Violet Proto-drake as well. Though it takes a year to get (requires you to complete all world events... Hallow's End, Children's Week, Lunar Festival, etc.)

Though, once you do complete it all after a year, you not only get the drake but Master Riding (Epic Flying must be purchased before Master Riding is available... mainly due to the fact that you have to be able to mount the Violet drake first).

You know, if you're the only one riding the mounts you ride.... why change anything?
I dunno about you, but I prefer being the more 'special unique snowflake' than just another grain of sand in the desert.
I'll have you note that my Purple Swift Griffin is among my favorite mounts :)

That was my first thought after the expansion hit, as I was trying to click on my first quest-givers, with 20 people encircling them, all riding some form of drake.

Made me miss mammoth mounts. Smiley: lol

I liked when everyone in Orgimmar was in the front where people normally are, but now people have started to migrate back to where the druids are so that sucks, since the front of org was lagging for me.

As for mounts, I love my Phosphorescent Stone Drake. I've only seen 2 other people with it and that was just within the week.

This might be a weird question, but I have to ask...anyone know what the whole lore is for the Drakes of the <Cardinal Direction> Wind? I mean, I get the stone drakes, but I hadn't seen anything to explain this other new type of drake.

Hrm...well, that explains very little thus far, but it does give me a bit to look up.

He is a storm dragon

Also, I've never actually run that instance. I should get off my *** and do that.

Edit: A-ha!

Quote:
The mighty Storm dragons are a mysterious creatures that inhabit the Elemental Plane of Air - Skywall. Their origin is unknown, as before the Shattering no one has seen them (or lived long enough to tell the story). Their draconic appearance however may not indicate their true nature. It appears they are quite tightly connected to the element of Air, and serve Al'akir the Windlord. They also seem to be non-sentinent beings, as none of them so far can be seen using any kind of language, neither Draconic nor Kalimag, not even Auran. This may mean that they are in fact elementals similar to the phoenixes from the Firelands. Whatever is true, only time may tell.

It's a known bug, but I don't get the impression that it's top priority for them to fix at the moment. Like you, I can't bring myself to use my Nether Rays at the moment, so I hope they get round to fixing it soon.

At least I gave you a lead to work off of ^_^
So they're likely to be elementals just taking a really cool form, huh?

If you like running heroics, you could try for the volcanic stone drake which is a reward for completing all the cataclysm heroic boss achievements. With the level of gear people have now, most are very easy with a good guild group. Wowhead comments are a great source for tactics.

edit: OK, it's not an easy one to get but if you do it like my guild, simply make it a long term project it can be a lot of fun killing the bosses in unconventional ways.
