For reference, you need to be above level 70 to complete the event (i.e. my priest is 70 and can't finish it).

I believe it requires level 75.

I had the letter in my mailbox at level 71, and dinged 72 during these quests - I have only done part of the questline, so maybe the later ones need 75, but not to start with.

Up until you get the item that turns you into a gnome/troll for half an hour, any level can do the quests.

Just found that, as I can progress no further with it.

Man, you're fast Theo!

Just finished the Alliance one - not bad and you get a rather massive damage and health boost for it (think Battle for the Undercity).

One small point - I was worried for a second or two because the quest objective says "Retake the surface of Gnomeregan" or something like that ... and up top it said we had retaken the surface of Gnomeregan, but my quest wasn't complete. Just keep going. You didn't miss the quest. :)

The Echo Isles thing is a huge deal for my troll warrior, who lost one of her sons to Zalazane years ago. I wasn't expecting it to come this soon, though, so it's been kind of crazy (and fun) figuring out her reactions to this sudden turn of events. Yay more things to write about for her.
If you send me a story I can post it on the news. Even better if you include pictures.

Sorry I clicked edit instead of reply. I need to slow down with my posting, the edit button is where the reply button used to be Smiley: frown

Hehe, no worries.

The story I've got written up for her isn't so much a summary of the event as it is her dealing with the aftermath, so it probably isn't what you're looking for at all. But here it is, for giggles. Teal deer version: cranky old troll has a nightmare about the day's battle, wakes up, decides to go get drunk.

Don't believe him. It's a trap.

I sent him a story last week and he still hasn't posted it. Granted, yours is relevant to an in game event so I guess he'll probably move more quickly on it. Smiley: tongue

Also, you should totally post it in the story sticky. We need a bit more stuff going on in there.

Turns you into a troll for 30mins.........or until you shapeshift :(

They could at least make it so your humanoid form is still troll when you switch out .....

Gnome one does the same, I didn't mind because gnomes are creepy.

I thought you had said you were sending some pictures as well. I'm sorry, I'll get it up right away then. Smiley: frown

I am going to put this story up first because it's linked to the news though.

I just did the first couple of quests and noted (with much excitement) that they are counting toward Loremaster of Kalimdor.

Edit: Sorry, I mean the troll side quests.

Edit 2: Why can't Vol'jin get an epic mount? The level 1 troll citizens had epic mounts.

Yeah, I probably did. Smiley: laugh

Odds are good I completely spaced on that part, been a rough couple weeks at work. Lemme get ya a few then, but I have to say that I may have trouble getting any relevant ones to this story and will need a day or two to get some friends to help me stage a couple screenies to go with this one.

That's weird. I wonder why I was faster than him. I kept having to stop and circle back because it seemed rude to steal his thunder. I don't have any mount speed increases. The other 2 players with me seemed to be having the same experience.

Maybe Garrosh sabotaged his ride!

That is weird. I dunno, I was thinking of the model rather than speed, I didn't really notice either way. It would make sense if he was a little slower, though, just so people didn't get left behind.

Gah, too early for brain to be working.

Hello, they’re gnomes. Did you really think there wouldn’t be any glitches?

It’s like the old saying about the difference between gnomish and goblin engineering: Gnomish inventions sometimes have a bug that causes them to blow up unexpectedly. Goblin inventions sometimes have a feature that causes them to blow up unexpectedly.

He has to move at a speed that will enable a non-mounted player to keep up with him since mounts are not required to do the event. While I don't personally know anyone who doesn't have at least a slow ground mount at 80, I did know someone who had several characters who reached 70 with no mount training because he just didn't see a need for it. As long as Blizzard keeps charging for mount training, they won't put special events like this in that require you to move at any speed faster than a standard running character unless they provide a temporary mount to use as well.

Actual reason: He is a troll and sees no need to move as fast as possible. Chill out mon.

Is there going to be anymore to these story lines? It all was rather short when compared to the pre Wotlk zombie invasion, didn't that last for a couple weeks (or just seemed like it)?

Yes.

Patch 4.0 will contain all of the Cataclysm lead-up, including the Cataclysm event, where the world breaks.

Zalazane's Fall / Operation Gnomeregan Overcloaks not implemented on live (See Cataclysm Prologue Preview)
It is true that the cloak rewards had overcloak functionality when these events were up on the public test realms some months back. In the end we decided that implementing the cloaks in such a way that players could aesthetically change the cloak they're wearing could set a bad precedent. We like customization and flavor items, but we don't want to start implementing aesthetic items in the game which allow players to look however they want while keeping all the stats they want. We felt the overcloaks were breaking that barrier a little too much.

Can I ask why not? People have been clamoring for this sort of thing for ages, and many thought that this was the first step to allowing that. Now you're telling us it was a first step that you don't want to take?
We've been tossing around some other ideas with regard to gear customization, but we still want to make sure there are appropriate limitations on a system like this. The limited buff timer on the overcloak just wasn't enough considering it would mask any cloak of any level. We'll continue to explore ideas for fun aesthetic gear customization, but we didn't feel this was the proper introduction of this kind of system. (Source)

I dont wholely understand this train of thought. Other than it being them delaying the onset of aesthetic
customization till they have loads of stuff and i imagine, a system to obtain it with [like the tournament with the racial mounts/tabards/pets.

but even then..why not give a taste test by providing the overcloak function here? Make people get a scent of something to increase the desire for something that will come later.
