As we expected, the forum thread for the Cataclysm Closed Beta Key Contest was truly epic, but we've pulled all fifty names out of our enormous hat. Like we stated in the contest rules, the winners were randomly selected, but we did check all of the users' posts to make sure they adhered to the eligibility guidelines. Thanks again to everyone that entered, and we hope that you stick around for awhile and make a home out of the WoW Allakhazam forums!

A woot! Now I can get my characters suck in bugs and end up breaking my keyboard in half in the process. I would have to second Someproteinguy's request on how many entries were invalidated? I just wish more regular users of Alla could have won. :l

I didn't enter, I'm already in the beta (I contemplated it though, keys sell >.>), but I still think there should have been 'x number of entries' set aside for people with, say, over 500 posts, or even people who were signed up with posts before the contest started.

As a new user myself, I can certainly see your point about wanting established members to be the winners. However I think this contest may bring some new members out of the woodwork. I have never been a big forum poster due to the typical behavior you tend to see on some forums (including the official WoW forums), but thus far I've been pleasantly surprised with what I've seen here.

While I may not post 20 times a day, I'll definitely be reading up and participating, and I definitely encourage any other new users to check things out as well.

While I am happy that you won, it makes me sad that someone like you was chosen over someone like Someproteinguy. I know you cannot know what kind of person they are by just their posts but how and what they post about paints a pretty good picture. I just hope people actually are able to articulate problems that they encounter in the beta better than "SRSLY BLIZZ WTF!!11!!1 THIS MOB WONT DIE!!11! WHY CNAT I DO THIS QEUST?!!??".

I recognize maybe 3 names on that list. Grats to those 3, and meh to the other 47 that never posted before. I hope you will stay here and be useful forum members like many of those who have posted hundreds/thousands of times have been over the years.

That's kind of why I'm upset with how the beta contest was handled. They could have very easily gotten this many posts and new users for 25 or even 30 contest entries, and used the other 20-25 for frequent posters that can share their experiences in beta with the rest of the forum.

Granted, I would have given away my beta key to a regular poster had I won, but it would have been conditional on them posting their findings much as idiggory and others have done thus far (I would have given it to someone with an 80 rogue that could keep the rogue forums updated with a beta thread).

It's frustrating that someone didn't think to use even 10-15 beta keys that way so that the forums could be an actual draw for new users (because what else is the site honestly good for?).

Grats and all, it's very exciting (or not, well, looking forward to Criminy and Xsarus posting some Cataclysm sweetles), but can we get down to the real business now?

How many sockpuppets were detected in the contest thread and how many were banned for it? Come on, spill some beans, I need a little drama to fill my empty life.
