Hey Darksonic -

The keys are still going out via emails and PMs. For this particular contest, we had to send them manually, so just be patient - it should be there soon.

Yanno, if you want some help... Smiley: grin

I was hoping someone would reply on forum, not by other means!

Just FYI that was me being facetious for those newbs not aware of my humor. Someone pointed it out to me, I better fill ya in that I am obnoxious.

Darksonic, your email was in my drafts box (thank god it saved and for gmail draft box!), it has been sent out. Sorry about that. You can spank me if you wish. Smiley: sly

No.

And don't pass Go, either.

In fact, go straight to Jail.

I think the biggest downside of so many of the winners being 1-and-done forum subscribers is that the long-time forum subscribers such as myself (I think my old FFXI account Hyu still exists) don't get the benefit of the knowledge of information from the beta. I know I love picking the brains of DKs in beta like idiggory, but most of these people only signed up for the contest, won their key, and you'll never see them again, whereas if a long-time poster had won, they would have seen beta and then contributed to the community afterwards.

I guess this is merely a business decision though, ZAM wishes to up their user numbers, which in theory would up the number of people paying for subscription, which would make them a more profitable business. That's fine, and I understand it completely, but it does disappoint me somewhat. I come to alla for the community, that's it. There are honestly better forums that have more knowledgeable players and more number crunchers to give me better info, but I've been a part of this community for probably close to a decade now, and I like seeing things that enrich the community, not just make the owners more cash.

Whatever... it doesn't really matter though. Grats to those who won.

Expanding a site's content and keeping it up-to-date is much better than a one-time boost in ad revenue. If we'd gotten a dozen regular posters into the beta, this site would have had a genuine chance of being at the front with the news.

20/20 hindsight, I'm sure the guys in charge thought the same thing you did, which is why it turned out this way.

I hope these new guys are the types that will write/organize new stickies.

Look at some of the class forum stickies, they are BC based or from that in between BC and Wrath time. As the original posters moved on or no longer are active and no one else stepped up. Actually, check that, most of the class forum stickies are severely outdated.

To be blunt, they site both needs new blood and to do something to reward people that actively contribute.

The contest was conducted in a way that exclusively pandered to the new blood/1-and-done and their new, temporary, advertising revenue. While some may step it up and actively contribute I doubt that most will. The site will see a short term spike in ad revenue but most likely not the increased long term activity that would actually increase long term hits to the site.

Especially since roughly 3/4 of the keys they gave away will not end up helping the site with new information that will draw further hits and by extension further ad revenue. Unlike most veteran posters who would of had a 100% chance of contributing to the sites knowledge base.

One of the things that drives the class stickies is the stream of questions that people don't want to answer over and over. This means that stickies get made at the beginning of an expansion, and then get updated less and less as it gets older. There just isn't a need for it. The same thing happened at the end of BC. I imagine with a new expansion people will be looking for details again, more questions will be asked, and someone will step up.

Yeah i totally understand where you guys are coming from, uhhh I RAID as a Feral bear Druid as well as a Protection Paladin, but I have 80's of... priest, warlock, death knight, hunter(X2T_T), paladin, druid, and shaman, so honestly if you guys have any preferences i can take requests for any of said classes. Again i'm not a huge poster so I wouldn't really know where to begin beyond requests unless anyone has any suggestions =)

Out of those that you just listed, I think Warlocks and possibly Shamans don't currently have anyone testing them out here.

Oooh - I play a Shaman! But I didn't win. :(

Eh - not that anyone would want to hear about enhancement anyways as it's the least played spec supposedly. Heheh

Anobix, Filter and I have already begun the process of prepping the mage class sticky for Cata. It's just like you said, there's little incentive to do much mid-expansion, but as we near the new one, things kinda get done.

You guys are awesome Pold. Even though I'm probably going to switch my main to a priest in Cata, the mage forums will continue to be my favorite class forum because you guys are so great about keeping everything updated and answering people's questions.

Pfft, you've never been to the Rogue forum, obviously. Everyone likes getting Gollum to answer their PvE questions.

Can't say I have no, as I hate rogues. Smiley: tongue I tried leveling once, got to level 4 and decided it wasn't for me. Plus considering I favor spell casters, rogues are mean to me in PvP.

Especially if you don't have PvP gear. I like those casters. Smiley: inlove

Definitely don't lump me in with the praise. I really haven't been active over on the mage boards during WotLK, though if you wanna talk about how awesome I was during BC, well, then you're totally right.

I was hella awesome back then.

Well you're still awesome. Maybe not as awesome as in BC, but you're still up there. Smiley: grin
