All I was going to add was the thing about mining with friends, but I guess so long as the first person doesn't loot completely and that works, I'm cool with it. :) I have a warrior friend who's leveling with my little dwarf hunter--he's BS and I'm engineering, and it will probably work out okay if he grabs the ore and I get the rocks.

I still think mining would be more awesome if it worked the way digging for treasure does in Pokemon though. Smiley: wink

I want to see this as the best news ever and really hope we're not just going to end up with less ore out of the same number of nodes. (The uncommon gem fiasco from BC still makes me shudder.)

Seriously, how can you nerf a mining node?

perhaps I'm just a mean person but this opens up tactically leaving a crystal earth so the node still appears for the competition. Will make the basin interesting :)

I can't wait until victims of claim jumpers start complaining about this change and how not only does the ninja get the first hit, but they can't even fight them over the subsequent hits.

But as far as I'm concerned, this is pure win.

Definately pure win.

I was always shocked that some people would be so rude/out of touch with other players, that they'd actually come up and start mining a node that you're already mining.

Sure you can hold SHIFT and not loot the ore while they sit there trying to ninja you, but I think this is generally a better way.

Good change.

Umm can someone explain what you mean by places having phases?

Mostly in Icecrown and Storm Peaks, doing some quests will change the phasing of certain areas, so mobs that used to be there are gone, and there are new ones now. You can still see the first phase of a place when you're flying in, but then it changes to the one that you're on.

Ah okay, I've experienced that, now that you've explained that (thanks much for doing so). For example before and after I got friendly with the sons of Hodir and the quests that took to attain.

I'd no idea that nodes were universal to all phases though. Wow and <pout>.

As much as I can see this being good for most poeple, it sucks for me.

I duo with a friend and we both have mining-dependent crafts and we would share nodes that we came across. Mostly so that we would skill up at an equal rate. Now that's out the window.

/sigh

Hold shift when you click the node. The loot comes up but you won't take it. Then let your friend loot. Not positive if it'll work, but I'm sure you could also use the tried and tested "you take this one, I take the next one" approach :-P

Hooray!

I can shift+click my nodes in peace rather than just click and snarl at the latecomer to my node...

Yaaaay, no more guys running up to a node that I am already whacking at, trying to ninja a few ore out of my node.

I run up to it, if I hit it first, it is ALL MINE. GTFO ore-whores. I tapped it, its mine first, get yer own.

This is how it should have been from day one.

I'm torn tbh. My initial thought was, great!!! Less time at each node = more ore per hours of mining, although i see mining as a relaxing break from killing :}

The Supply will definitely grow though, more miners will be out there as it'll be less time consuming, i really only use mining as a way of earning money (selling titansteel bars etc), occasionally i send a couple of stacks of Saronite to my ALT JC to prospect.

Ultimately i will be worse off, maybe some miners will switch to BS or Eng if the bars come down in price a lot.

I'm alliance, so if I see a horde clear his way to some ore, I'll drop in and steal it and feel pretty good about it. Now I won't be able to steal a swing in between his loots though, so I'll just have to get there faster.

Well, yes and no. As it is now nodes disappear a set time after being mined, even if you get just one mine off. The timer on that is usually too long to be annoying, but I have actually lost two or three veins because mobs KEPT coming after I got one mine off.

"Mining veins and deposits no longer require multiple hits to receive all the ore. Players will receive around the same amount of ore, stone, and gems they would have received from multiple hits."

Why doesn't this just say the same amount?

Because that would've made Mining OP, that's why. :)

As far as mining runs with a friend who also mines, this is a GOOD change. Alternating hits on a single mine has always been silly imho. It has almost ALWAYS been better to say "Hey dude, I got this one, go to the next one quick before someone else gets it!"

Even if you are on a PvP server, having 2 people at the same mine is meh. Instead of miner #2 sitting there and alternating hits or "protecting miner #1" it is always better to just get to the next mine asap.

I'm actually not sure whether I like this change.

For one, I usually go on a mining spree to do a bit of in-game relaxing; I fly around and mine now and then. This means I'll spend a lot more time flying around than actually 'cashing in'. Also, one mine is now all I need to find out if the vein gave me any gems or other rare loot. This completely takes away the tension. As it is now I sometimes find myself saying "come on, just one more ore from this vein and I'll end up with exactly 20 bars". I can actually get enthousiastic when I indeed dó get one more ore.

Meh, in the end I suppose the change is good, but I can definitely see some cons here.

Isn't that a good thing?

Now can they please allow us to skin without having to fill our bags with all the vendor trash from required looting?

yes i agree this is great for some people..(1) Gold farmers...(2) epic flying mount people..the non epic mount people will be getting ripped.

I like the idea because its slows you down when you have to sit at the deposit because it had 3-4 pulls. Also it reduces the risks of morons trying to come gank the deposit away while your cleaning it.

Northrend is full of pudding cups...I mean...mining nodes. It's not exactly a taxing profession to level :P

(Had to make this reference cause I love the movie)

"Healthy Choice and Steamwheedle Airlines got together and put this promotion: If you buy any 10 Healthy Choice products, they will reward you with 500 frequent flier miles; with this special coupon, they'll up it to 1,000 miles. So, I think they are trying to push their Roasted Quail, which is 40 silver, but I went to the Northrend and I looked around and I saw that they had pudding... For 25 copper a cup... Comes in packages of four. But, insanely, the barcodes are on the individual cups! So, quarter a cup, say you bought 2s 50c worth. That's worth 500... With the coupon it's 1,000 miles. It's a marketing mistake but I'm taking advantage of it. If you were to spend 3,000 gold, that would get you a million frequent flier miles. You would never have to pay for a gryphon ride the rest of your life."

(edit: And, yeah, I'm stoked about this upcoming change since I'm a miner)
