Zone of the Week: Azuremyst IsleFollow

I'm going to try something here, and I have no idea if it will catch on or not, but I will run it a couple weeks through the BC newbie zones at least to see. (And yes, this is the first one.)

I'd like to present to you the Zone of the Week. I'd like you to make any comments, commentaries, questions, etc. that you can think of regarding the zone - in this case Azuremyst Isle - that you can think of. There are a few reasons I want to do this:

1) It gives you a forum to discuss the zones. Of course, after the week is over, there will always be the usual "forums" for each zone by going to Basic Info -> Zone..., but this is perhaps more visible and present to the forum-going populace.

2) It gives me a chance to ask everyone on the site, "Is there anything wrong with any aspect of the zone, regarding maps or quests or anything else?" You are, of course, welcome to comment on simply how the zone is wrong from a player's perspective, but don't derail the thread grossly with rants because...

3) It creates the potential to make a guide for the zone. A long time ago I did a questing guide for a couple zones, and some of the other site users have as well, but it's always hard to do completely on your own without feedback from others.

So feel free to offer up whatever you have to say about Azuremyst Isle in this thread...just no comments about the drivel in General chat please!

Oh yeah, and here's the map of the zone for reference. The boat at Valaar's Berth takes you to Auberdine, and Bloodmyst Isle is to the north.

I know this is not part of what you wanted, but is there a place that I can find the maps like the one on here.

Your map that you did for Hellfire Peninsula was awesome in helping me find out the different places I needed to go. I have gone to your journal numerous times to look at that map, I think you did one for Zangarmarsh too. I have been looking for one for Terrokolar Forest with no luck.

But these maps are extremely helpful.

I acutally have a question, as I've not been there on my 60 Hunter.

How does one get to Azuremyst Isle? Purely for informational purposes, of course. I have no intention of going there on my 61 Shaman; nope, not at all. Smiley: grin

Just running through on a level 1 Draenei (who I promptly deleted after seeing the crack-fest they call a city) I was pretty impressed with the zone. It's no Eversong Woods, but I like it. I'm interested in going back and exploring via epic mount.

Boats goto a dock just outside the Exodar. I believe it goes to Auberdine in Darkshore.

I really really liked the whole zone line. Took me from 1-20 just fine.

My only question about the zone is that there is an island with a dragon circling the top and a grave saying it needs more items. Is this part ofa quest if so which one?

That is used in the final quest of a three-part chain. First in the chain is here:

Otillo, they're all at wow.allakhazam.com/images/zones ...and I really wish we would get them added to the sidebar under geography with all the other maps we have.

In any event, I was looking primarily for Azuremyst, but if you want to bundle in Bloodmyst there, you can. I have some not-so-nice things to say about Bloodmyst Isle, though. (Drop rates, scattered flow of quests, etc.)

As for Azuremyst, I suppose I did experience a little bit of the same. The lashers never want to drop their vines, the quests keep working their way west...except when they suddenly go north or in some other completely random direction, the quests in Stillpine Hold were completely lacking any real sense of pattern to them and the questgivers weren't always there. But generally speaking, I did like Azuremyst. Got 1-12 in fairly quick fashion, and only got really frustrated inside Stillpine. I never did find a purpose to the Pod Cluster and Pod Wreckage areas, though. (Or Wildwind Peak.)

I started a Draenai Shaman in Ammen vale about two weeks after the XP pack came out. I'm just playing her occasionally. So far she is level 7 and has made it to Ammen Ford. I completed all of the quests in the first area with no bugs. On my server Tanaris the zone was pleasently normal. Their were some people running about doing quests but it was not overwhelmed by any means.

Great map Azuarc! I'll be sure to use it as I continue to play my Shammy in between my main.

I like the idea of this thread. If I find any bugs I'll report them here.

I may have a tip or two about the first area but I need to go home first and check the quests names that I want to refer to tonight after work.

I started a Dranei hunter a couple days ago, she is 18 and about to move on to the mainland for good, too bad this wasn't up then, it would have been very helpful. Good job, Az.

I haven't finished the Bloodmyst stuff but I found the Azuremyst quests to be just challenging enough to keep them from being tedious. I really liked the whole language thing with the Stillpines but it was really annoying to get up to Azure Watch and ask for a skinning trainer and get directed to Stillpine Hold where I couldn't understand anyone there and wouldn't get a chance to learn until I hit level 8. :P

There are several quests that only start from dropped items and so it's really easy to totally miss out on some nice experience simply because you didn't kill the right creature for the dropped quest.

I thought it was really interesting that the items you need to get from the murlocs are available as both drops and as clickable items in the camps. It seems to be a nice way to make sure people can get the quest items even when things are busy.

The Exodar is pretty but I still have to ask the guards a lot to find stuff. I don't like that the inn is so far from the Bank and the AH though and I haven't found any easy places to cook stuff other than at the cooking trainer.

I really liked Azuremyst, the quest lines are easy to follow, mobs aren't too hard to kill. For the vine drop rate, that is mostly to help you level up some, if you completed all the quests and didn't level up any, you would be mince meat come next zone.

I really enjoyed the snapper quest with the net! I hated the root quest tho at Azure Watch. Took forever! Again it's prob a level up issue, they make drop rate bad to make you gain xp by killing.

I don't see the issue with Stillpine Az, I had np there whatsoever. Tell me your problems grasshopper!

Now when you are onto Bloodmyst, let's talk! I love Bloodmyst!

Thanks! I'm seconding putting them on the sidebar, would save a lot of time for me having to run around trying to discover that next spot I'm looking for. Seems sometimes if I'm not 6 inches a certain way I won't discover it.

I really liked it as well. The quests were great, I think they learned a lot with designing starter zones. Eversong Woods is prettier but for sheer quality of quests (I mean that totem one ROCKED) It has to be Azuremyst ftw.

This is something to look for if you are out and about in Azuremyst Isle...

Goto Odeysus' Landing and just stand there... after several seconds (or minutes =P ) the cook and the captain will start a conversation about what is going to be for dinner. If you want to know what is said you'll have to go there and listen in.

Something else to look for once you get to Bloodmyst Isle (north of Azuremyst Isle)... In Blood Watch stand by the mailbox and after a few minutes a disgruntled Draenei Postman will visit the box... just listen to what he says, heh.

The thing that angers me about this zone is that it takes forever to move around and run from place to place.

Oh, there are definitely some cool things to the zone.

Somehow I doubt gaining an entire level off one quest, which I did again in Bloodmyst with the bear meat and (surprise surprise) lasher vines is the way to go. As for the root quest, if you're talking about the one I think you are, it was quite easy with herbalism because I could track the items.

A really easy way to deal with the quests that have bad drop rates is to just not actively go after them. Do your other quests as normal and if you see a mob that drops what you need on the way, kill it. But don't bother spending 1+ on one quest when you could be getting XP faster some other way.

For me the annoying quest on Bloodmyst was the one for the Crystallized Tree Bark from the Treants, there just weren't any around and the few I found barely dropped any. I think i ended up finishing it when I was like 500XP before it would have gone grey just because I killed the one treant beside the road to Blood Watch every time I passed to get the bark.

Save that for next week! Tree bark, however is a pita. BUT there is solution!

When you have to kill axxarians, or whatever, there are treants there, tons of them!!! It's like they are doing a ritual dance around a fire. Real close to zevrak or something, the boss guy who stands in front of the ruin you have to go to also.

2 things;

Copper mines seem to last a few whacks longer than they do in other lowbie zones.

None of my meat eating pets would eat any of the Azuremyst drops.. not even the Raw Meat eaters would touch the Moongraze Stag Tenderloin.

..not even when it's dripping with tender juicy goodness.

I saw lots of treants on the road to Nazzivian. They were all around some crash debris south of the road and the respawn rate was so nuts that I hardly had to leave the road to keep killing them continuously.

Admiral Odeysus : Hey Cookie! What's for dinner? And don't say chicken!

"Cookie" McWeaksause : Yarr admiral, it be coming into focus... yarr. We be having succulant pork ribs basted in their own delectable juices served with a side o' Captain Sanders Secret Sauce for dippin'. And for desert we be having cheesecake flown in from Stormwind on the wing o' angels.

Admiral Odeysus : Wow! Really?

"Cookie" McWeaksause : No, not really...

::Cookie shoots a chicken::

"Cookie" McWeaksause : It be chicken...

Admiral Odeysus : ...I hate you so much, Cookie.
