Live MaintenanceFollow

In the upcoming weeks, we will be testing the effect of a live maintenance, where regular maintenance tasks are run during off-peak hours with the realms live. On Tuesday, December 26 there will be no scheduled downtime for weekly maintenance. We will perform all necessary maintenance tasks while the realms are live. We are anticipating the possibility that we may need to perform rolling restarts off-peak if we find that a realm restart is necessary; however the downtime for each realm is estimated at less than 10 minutes if it was required.

Thank you,

Blizzard Entertainment.

For all of our sakes I hope that they can get this to work.

would be absolutely amazing. Guild Wars did something pretty similar (just pushed out patch info while you played then told you to restart when it finished).

Yea I just read that. Seems like a cool idea.... hopefully it works.

About the new content being downloaded via the blizzard background downloader... I've been stuck at 0% forever now....

The Blizzard Downloader for 2.0's pre-patch took several weeks. I think in my case, it was running pretty much constantly for a good two weeks solid. I imagine the BC pre-patch will be much the same. It's a torrent-style application, I believe, so it's got low impact on Blizzard's end, but the trade off is it takes fuggin' forever. :)

I was at 23% when i left home this morning, should still be downloading as we speak.

The live routine maintenance things sounds awesome and I don't even think anyone would mind a 15 minute restart either compared to the few hours of downtime we get every tuesday morning.

This is especially awesome for me since i have tuesdays off and love to PvP when i wake up in the mornings, but can't on tuesdays :(

I see this as a cause for "Why can't I log into the game" messages scattered throughout the week, instead of just Tuesdays (Wednesdays for EU servers). Still, its a step in the right direction.
