Lemme guess, you come over from FFXI? :P

My suggestion would be going to the left side(<-- over there) and clicking 'Class' and just cruise through all of them and choosing which appeals to you most. :)

Cheers, and welcome to the game!

a bit more info about what you enjoy would help. do you like to stand back and fight from the outside or are you a more in your face type? do you like support classes like healing or do you like to be a meatshield such as a tank?

there are tons of resources here on the left as was stated above that will help you choose as well.

good luck and hope it's as fun for you as it has been for me :D

Only you can say what is most fun to you. The good thing about WOW is you can try them all out, if you don't like one then move on to the next. As for server, that depends on whether you want to be on a PvP or PvE, and also your roleplay preference. I personally don't care for wide open PvP so I went PvE on several different servers, and I have tried just about every class and every profession, until I finally hit on my hunter, which I love. Don't worry about the guild, when the time is right, you and the guild will find each other, that is not something I would want to rush into.

lol yeah, i had a few 75s, the thing with ffxi you change job, not start again and do all the missions again :x

In ffxi, i got 75 dragoon (melee) 75 Warrior (melee) 75 Black mage (duhhhh)
so i'm realy into dealing alot of damage. i hate tanking and hate healing.

i played priest a while back on wow and hated it. so i figure a melee class.

also, Guilds i used to be in- they was mostly kids asking for gold, is that what you guys do... share/scavenge gold?

a Warrior can be great for damage if specced right though you will be pidgeonholed into tanking often and folks that are into damage don't often find that fun.

Shaman has a great mix of magic and melee, ability to heal as well as put out crazy damage. with the recent changes I might try that myself...

rogue is all physical damage though their survivability goes down a bit because of the softer armor.

Paladin is a very viable melee class though they seem to tend more toward the tank/heal than the damage though being horde I am not the best one to advise on them.

soon as the expansion is out, january 16th then you can play shaman or paly in either realm though at the moment they are limited to horde or alliance respectively.

Dealing a lot of damage.

Dealing a lot of damage close up - Rogue
Dealing a lot of damage at range - Mage, Hunter and Warlock

Of course even the classes that can heal such as Druid, Shaman and Priest can be effective damage dealers with the right specs. They still will often get requests to heal for groups though.

Warriors can deal a lot of damage with the right specs.

I also am new and justed started about two weeks ago. I've been playing RP games forever (original gold box D&D series through Elder Scrolls Oblivion) but had never played MMO. Only real online experience was mostly playing around with FPS (Call of Duty, Medal of Honor series).

Started with a Human Warrior, took him to level 17 but it just didn't do it for me. Started a Dwarf hunter took him to level 15 and had a lot of fun and met alot of nice helpful people that I always grouped with when we were online. Liked having a pet to tank. One day the server was down, so I started my NE Rogue character and immediately found that I liked the style of play and options that the rogue gave me in PvE. Was able to stealth and solo through many higher level quests that I probably couldn't have completed solo as a warrior or even hunter. In WSG, my rogue has done much better than I ever did with the warrior or hunter even though I am still learning the intricacies of PvP. In short, Hunter was fun but I really found that the rogue fits my style of play best and offers the best mix of fun and challenges for me.

As a prior poster stated it is easy to try out several classe until you find the one you like best. Have fun!

The WoW classes are very well balanced. There is no class that is "better" than any other. However, once you choose a class, you can't change over to a different class. Perhaps that's because in WoW, you don't have to pay to have another character. You can have as many as fifty characters on the same account without paying anything more than your regular monthly fee.

Classes are individualized by choosing the talents. After level 10 is reached, you get to choose one talent per level. Thus, two rogues can be quite different individuals (and play differently) depending on which talents were chosen. You can drop all your talents and choose new ones anytime you want, but that will cost you gold (more gold every time you decide to switch). I guess that's the closest that WoW comes to "changing jobs".

My suggestion is to try whatever you feel might be fun. Since you aren't locked into a single character, you can switch back and forth until you come across something that really suits your particular style of play.

Reputable guilds kick out beggars. What do you mean by "scavenge"? There are a great many ways to make gold easily, without breaking a sweat. While there is really no actual need to "share", many people help out fellow guild members. That's one of the reasons for being in a guild, after all. Help is not usually monetary, but If I have gold and a guild member needs some extra to (for example) purchase a mount, I'll come up with what's needed and ask the guildie to pay it forward.

WoW is not about getting to L60 as fast as possible. There is no "win" when you get to the level cap. There is a lot of game to enjoy and a great many things to do on your way up. Take a deep breath, slow down, and take time to smell the peacebloom. You'll end up being a better player for it.
