Instance Question(s)Follow

Hi all,

Just thought of some instance question(s) after doing some SFK runs the other night.

#1.) Do instances automatically reset after a certain time (say 30 min or so), or do you have to manually reset them? I have only reset them once or twice, but this was after already doing an instance back-to-back. So that makes me think there is a set reset time.

#2.) Is there a big difference in changing the instance difficulty setting? Granted running SFK with my 52 hunter I would not see a huge change in difficulty. Did this a little while ago and couldn't tell. I would think that running a higher one more my level would be a bit harder on the "heroic" setting.

#3.) Does changing the instance difficulty setting in any weird way change the chance of getting better/more frequent drops? I know that this is probably not the case, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Sorry if my questions seem kind of "duh"-ish, but i think of things while at work that get me thinking. thanks!

1) Non-Raid reset 24 hours auto? I know raids have there own "timers"

2) heroic is not implemented yet, you can turn it on but I belive several regulars have showen it is not yet activated.

3) I am not sure.

From what I understand, certain drops will only be available to instances run in heroic mode. However, I thought that only applied to the new upcoming BC instances, not to older, existing ones.

You can reset the instance yourself, as long as your the leader or by yourself by right clicking on your portrait and click reset all instances or something like that

1) It resets when the group changes (if you join a group or start a group, it'll reset). Also, there's a time out involved. I think somethink like an hour? I know I cleared SM Cath with my rogue and my wife's pally. After an hour or so, we wandered back to the computer (we'd been AFK fixing dinner and the kids ran us around Tirisfal) and went back in. Everything had reset on us. Very anecdotal, so take it for what it's worth.

2) Blizzard has said that the Heroic settings will only work on the instances in the Outland. They have said that they're unsure about plans to retrofit them on to the Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms instances.

3) When it does change, the monsters will be harder and the loot will be better. From what I've read of the beta, it'll be a significant difference in difficulty and loot.

If nobody is inside the instance for 30 minutes straight, then the instance will be reset. You can also manually reset the instance. Instances are saved to the current leader of the party. If people leave the group, they lose access to the current instance and get a fresh instance when they enter. If several people form a party, they get the instance from the person that started the invites.

Note, the above applies to 5 and 10 man instances. It's a little more complex for 20 and 40 man instances, which have several factors in the instance reset on calendar basis, and allow players to save to the instance.

You can also manually reset the instance if everyone is outside the instance.

The difficulty setting of the instance is decided upon entering the instance. If someone is already in the instance, changing the difficulty no longer has any effect, the instance will remain at the difficulty setting it was. If you want to play on the other difficulty setting, you need to all leave the instance and reset it.

You cannot enter pre-TBC instances in heroic mode. This setting only applies to TBC instances. The TBC instances (on normal setting) will scale up in difficulty, so some will be at the appropiate level when you just entered outlands while others will be at the appropiate level when you're close to 70. When you're 70, you can run all the instances at heroic settings, making them a decent challenge for a group of all lvl 70's, and changing the drops to those suited to fall in a lvl 70 instance.

The nice thing about this is that, unlike now, where only a few instances are constantly run at lvl 60, while all the lower instances no longer make sense to run, at lvl 70 you got all instances in TBC to choose from, so you never miss out on playing an instance at a challenging level, just because you didn't happen to run it at the right level, and you'll have more diversity among the instances that you play.

wow, thanks for the responses!

Just saw the heroic setting and though id give it a try. But if it is for BC expansion only, then i will switch it back. Not a big deal, just got me thinking.

I had figured the instances reset themselves after a given amount of time. My last SFK run was about 15min after the first one, so it was kind of funny to walk back inside to find the castle empty, lol. Now i will just reset it before reentering.

I thought the "better drop" idea on heroic setting would be cool. If so i guess everyone would play "heroic"!

You can click the heroic but sadly enough our guild leader had to try it in ST and he didn't know it didn't work. Most groups just run in without killing after the jump and we aggroed like 6 mobs and our healer was still running to us from SW. We wiped and we ended up not doing the instance. Don't click heroic.

Lazykrnboi> That was completely due to running in without a healer, since heroic does NOT affect pre-TBC instances.

Annenna> Heroic setting indeed drops better items, so yes, it's smart to run instances on heroic setting, if you're able to overcome the challenge. You should be 70 for that though, while you can enter some regular instances as soon as 60.
