You know, every now and then someone will post them and they'll give you a keylogger. and I'm kinda freakin out here, but I'm like 50% sure I have one. What do I do?

.....stay calm. Do not panic. Your computer will self destruct in a few minutes. Thank you for using Allakhazam. Have an explosive day.

On a more serious note, I have no clue. I never click on links

Don't log in to WoW until you're sure you don't have one.

Update your antivirus program & run a virus scan ASAP! I always recommend a full scan, not just executable files, when you suspect something may be amiss.

if you're running windows system restore, you can go back to the last clean date and i'm pretty sure you'd be safe then.... not 100% sure though because i turned it off.

I've done virus scans like, 5 times already. I'll try one of those system restores.

Windows system restore is a great idea. Just restore back to a day or so ago. That should cause any applications that start up with your pc to be the same as back then, minus the keylogger entries in the registry. After that do a full scan with your up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware apps.

Do not log in or go to any sites which will require you to enter sensitive information until you get your computer cleared. If you have antivirus and antispyware programs give your computer a thorough scan. Another alternative is to restore your system to an earlier state if you do regular backups.

You can also visit the official WoW customer service forums at http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27963528&sid=1 for a guide with info on preventing and removing keyloggers.

Anti Virus software, that's a must, and update it ;)
Spybot Search and Destroy can help, it's free and is here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
Again, update it before running a scan.
Also, regarding System Restore, quite a few pieces of nasty software actually install themselves into the system restore folder, so when you do a roll back, you also restore the nasty that you wanted to get rid of.
If you absolutely must play wow in the mean time, may I suggest that you email your password to yourself (from another PC) and when you get the mail, you can simply copy and paste the password using only your mouse ;)
Hope that helps!

One quick caveat: System Restore sometimes is a target of viruses, simply because due to the way it is designed, I remember something about antivirus programs being unable to remove certain viruses from it. There were a few viruses a while back (when I still dealt with retail clients) which required System Restore to be disabled, and a full scan run in Safe Mode.

Rate ups for people who gave good suggestions.

System restore is not a fix. All it is is a catalog of pointers and where they used to or are pointing. If you use system restore the files are still there just nothing is pointing to them so to the system they are "invisible". However certain events can re-allocate the file and restore its pointer.

I'm not saying it isn't a quick fix, just that I wouldn't put any faith in it. Your better off running updated virus and adware scans and a non-script plugin. Tightening up your firewall so that it prompts you to allow any and all .exe's that try to access the internet is a pretty good way to find a keylogger.

if you're running windows system restore,

not the best advice, for the reason above (viruses have been known to target the restore files) as well as the fact that the restore can sometimes not restore the right versions of things. Especially if you aren't actively using it. In other words if from the day you got your PC to today you have never heard of/looked at/touched/used system restore then you probably shouldn't use it now.

However if you actually mark restore points and such then it can be ok.

Ok, I've got all of the stuff that Kaone suggested on http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27963528&sid=1

I've done virus scans and everything and even changed my password.
#14 Dec 13 2006 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
more than anything, you should run the virus scan on safe mode, 99% of the time, that will catch whatever is around in your computer.

Bad links, are links provided from outside users.

You can click any site provided link from here (by here, i mean links that are on the website) and chances are you will be safe in doing so, this includes the banner adds (from what im aware of).

You just have to be cautious about the links that a user posts, sometimes they can direct you to a keylogger, and basically your screwed, because most times you dont even know you have it until after its too late.

They can steal a number of things, most times its only a password. If you type in say a credit card number, they can steal that. And that gets nasty.

Either way, just be cautious of every single link you click, that someone posts no matter who posts it.

The next time you log into wow, take a screen shot of all of your items, just so you can send it to the people, and you dont loose anything. :)

I dont know if this would help anything, but I try to take a screenshot when possible.
