So i originally played FFXI before WoW. I was in and end-game linkshell and had made some good friends, friends I still keep in touch with. They were dissapointed when I said I was leaving, but respected it as my choice. I had some very nice gear for my black mage as well as good gear for all my other jobs. I sold off most of it and pooled up all the money with the intent of distributing it to four people, I will call them Tom,dick,Harry and Jane. Now of all of them I was closest to Tom, he was the Linkshell leader at the time and I, along with dick,Harry and Jane were co-officers.

So when I quit I mentioned to Tom my plans and he expressed interest in taking over my account so it didn't go to waste. I was OK with that with a few stipulations, First that the bulk of the money get sent to the four people, himself included, and second that he let anyone know that it was not me anymore.

So that was the end, or so I thought. Time went on, We talked occasionally, my requests were honored and everyone was given their share. Tom continued to play the character and things went well. A credit card issue arose and Tom had to pass the account on to Jane (Tom and Jane were very close, even got married in game). Jane was also having an issue and had to pass the account on to dick.

Well ... dick fucked us. dick decided to sell off all the gear on the character (Multiple millions worth easily, just about the best gear you could get pre-75 including several HQ staves (for those that know what that means :P ) and then kept all the money with basically a "Fuck you" when questioned about it.

I found out about this recently and was quite dissapointed, I mean it was no loss to me anymore. But to think this was someone we all trusted ... /sigh. Just goes to show.

So Tom and Jane F. But D1ck F's them both.

All my millions of gear/gil are collecting dust, that is a bummer though man its sad to see stuff like that go down.

I could not imagine letting someone else play my FFXI Character. He's got his own soul, his own thing. It just wouldnt' feel right to me.

yea, I wouldn't have given it to anyone else, the guy I gave it to though was someone I trusted, I knew he would have a good home and that my rep would not be tarnished or anything.

It is very disappointing when you feel that someone has let you down and very disappointing to know that something you cared for, worked hard on, & spent hours on and then passed on to others to enjoy met a poor end.

I've learned over time that if I can't give something away (in real life) without 'strings' then I have to just keep it until I can let go of it both physically and emotionally. I've fretted over things I've passed on to relatives but I realized that as much as I want to make sure my things get treated like I treated them, that I can't control what others do with them after I've let them out of my possession.

Rather than focus on the disappointing part of this story, you could also focus on the major part of it where everything went right.

People aren't too bad, a little trust goes a long way.

I had something bad happen to me in FFXI when I was going to stop playing, but at some point I realized that everyone that I wanted to have part of my money had part of my money and gear.

Even though I didnt want my character to "die" (or even lose anything else), what happened afterwards couldnt be stopped and I wasnt really planning on ever going back to FFXI anyway.

Long story....
(I thought I needed to have my character deleted before cancelling the Content ID, and when I went to reactivate the ID 94 days later I couldnt get the character back... and since I was 4 days late of reactivating it I was told by a SE customer rep to wait for the FIRST Return to Vanadiel event to get him back and I could use that Content ID to make a new character to play til then... :sigh: So I made a new character on my original character's ID and played it for two months and called SE again and they said since I had made a new character on that ID I couldnt retrieve my original character................................ after I griped them out and told them that another rep TOLD me to make a new character on it they still said they couldnt help me, so I played the new character for another month or two and cancelled again)

I tried restarting a couple of times and asked for some of my gear back (two Astrals Rings mainly) and come to find out that one friend sold the one I let him have, and the other friend didnt have an account anymore.

Every now and then I get the craving to play FFXI a little bit, but I just dont want to start over again, and it is hard to jump back onto a chocobo when the bird is already miles away from you... if you get what I mean....

And yes... I still get the craving to go back. =/
