You wanna know why XI had more stability even on patch day? The bandwidth limit. If blizzard toned down the game enough and forced a 56K limit, their bandwidth requirements would be at least quartered and make everything more stable on patch days when 90% of the community tries to log in at once. Oh, and on that note, I take it you didn't play when the expansion was released (the most recent one)? There was a zone line (I think it was Rolanberry Fields > Jeuno) that caused the game to crash and your character got locked out. Oh, and it took them over a week to fix it. And 2 days to even comment on it. And their comment? "We're working on the problem, but please just avoid using this entrance to Jeuno as it can lockout your character". And don't even get me started on the instability of the new main city that was in the expansion. Probably not even as many people in it as were in stormwind at primetime a few days after the patch, but it was so bad the entrance was locking people up because the server couldn't handle the strain....their solution? The game boots you out of the area if it's full.
Yeah, the crap that went down when the XI expansion hit was what made me quit. this ain't NEARLY as bad.
I like how half of that is wrong
While some of what you said is right; I went from rolanberry > jeuno multiple times after the expansion came out and never had a problem. Also the new city was not unstable, i'll say that WoW is probably more stable but the server was deffinantly able to handle it. And their solution? What are you talking about? The only max persons cap is that
only during besieged, Al zahbi will only allow up to 700 people. Not to mention that 700 people, besieged monsters, and the city graphics contain a ******** more memory(not sure if that's the right word) and polygons than WoWs main citys alone. (I do give them major props for doing an amazing job at linking most of the areas together tho.)
I personally never had problems with FFXI, but I have had problems with WoW. I think this is mainly because WoW focuses more on RAM and FFXI focuses more on CPU. I also personally believe that these 'server problems' you describe in ffxi are more likely problems with the computer itself and not the server. I can't comment fully on the zoning thing, because I don't recall it that much. I only know it didn't effect
a lot of people.
And yes, what's happening in WoW is much worse then any problems i've ever had in ffxi besides the DDOS stuff. (Logs being screwed with constantly, BG servers going down constantly[although this seems to have gotten much better now], me getting alliance defense messages while on the horde, item text ***** ups[this one isn't that big a deal], etc.) About the maint too, both wow and ffxi seem to do good with downloading the patch, but blizzards servers were just too unstable after the maint. Maybe it was just a one-time deal and i'm just jumping the gun, and i'm hoping I am.
Now this is a serious question that I don't know anything about: Is it just my current server that disconnects me if i'm afk for over 15 minutes, or does every server do this?
