Edit: Subsequent posts indicate...it's always been like this, and I just never noticed. OOPS! ****, now I feel bad for all the people whose xp I dorked trying to be helpful.

I was leveling my bitty warrior last night, losing ground fast against a gnoll. A kind priest rode past, dropped a much appreciated heal, and renew. He guarded me til the fight was over, and then put Fortitude on me. I thanked them profusely.

However, when I killed my enemy, I got 40xp rather than 160. I would have died without the priest's help, so *I* don't care. But I know some might.

Unless I was tardy getting somewhere, I *always* stopped to MoW and rejuv when playing druid. Do I need to stop this now? this puts me personally in a bind. It's against my nature to ride on, refusing to help someone in need. At the same time, I know people who would be extremely displeased to lose 3/4 of their xp.

Needs more testing but that would put a curb on RMT PLing. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Maybe it was the heal and not the buffs? Certainly healing some1 flags you in PVP so maybe it had a similar effect and "stole" your XP?

edit: sry kinda lept in there but yes agree that healing strangers might not always be appreciated... darn there go my good deeds for the days

I dont see how it would curb it....I mean you as a higher level you have to cast the lower ranks to help them right? Not much different than an equal level player running by and helping ya. /shrug maybe I misunderstand how this all works though.

It was the heal during the fight. The system saw it as assistance and lowered your XP. For all subsequent fights, you should have gotten full credit.

This was in place well before 2.0, It hink since production, actually.

Yeah. During the bugger invasion, my L29 priest threw a couple heals on the L60s who were fighting in town and I got "credit" for the kill and could loot quest items from the corpse.

I suppose you could go around casting small heals on players to share credit for their kills as a strategy. If someone was doing that to me, I would politely tell them to leave me alone.

Generally, I have healed and been healed when it seemed like a good samaritan gesture. No one has ever gotten mad at me for helping on a limited basis. Usually people just pass on by and leave you to die, so the shock value of helping can be enormously amusing--especially if you help an opposing faction member kill a mob instead of killing them.

And there is no limit to the amount of exp points in the game. If you lost out on the last mob, another one will be along shortly...

I say we should all continue to buff and heal away. It’s not a big deal. Let’s say you pass by someone who has pulled two mobs and is near death. You cast a heal or two to keep him alive and you then cast a buff or two. The character gets less XP for the two dead mobs. But he also saves the time for a corpse run and he now has better stats for half an hour. I don’t see the problem. If someone is so **** that they can’t stand getting a few less experience points in exchange for a buff, he/she has other issues to deal with.

This is, of course, for run by buffing. If someone starts following another character around and healing them every fight that’s another mater. If the one getting healed asks that person to stop and they don’t do so its harassment. But that’s a completely different situation.

I enjoy run by buffing. And the new ability to do so is one of my favorite changes to come in this patch.
