If by "cut" you mean "compress" I would think - I could be wrong! - that the download will be in a compressed format anyway, although it wouldn't hurt to ZIP it with Winzip or an equivalent. It might cut the file down sufficiently.

If you mean "can I just cut bits out of the download" I wouldn't think that plan is going to work. You could try a Bitorrent link for the patch, which has threads devoted to it here, but even that can take 4 or 5 hours on a 2 meg connection. Blizzard's feed is the slow, "trickle" type and that took a few days.

Anyhow, assuming you can download quickly at the library, I'd suggest a bigger USB stick (they are dirt cheap lately) or maybe get a pal to burn it to CD for you. I did this for myself to update my other 2 PCs, rather than have each one download the file.

You could always span the file into multiple smaller files (winzip or winRAR will do this)

Provided WinRAR is installed (www.rarlabs.com):

  • Right click the directory that contains the files.
  • Add to archive.
  • Set compression method to store.
  • Set Split to volumes, bytes to whatever sized chunks you need it to be. (For example: To split it in pieces of 1 megabye you'd type in 1000000.)
  • Click ok.

You'll now have the ready-made chunks you can transfer back home.
