New to WoW and got a couple of questions.Follow

Hey, I'm recently playing FF XI, (BST75) and I was thinking of switching to WoW full time, but first i'm going to try it for a month or so... see where it takes me... this brings me to a couple of questions:

1. What's the most important class in a party's damage dealing spot?
I want to try the most hard hitting melee there is in the game, and... would this class be able to solo for xp, quests, items and stuff?

2. Is hunter a good class?
I read a little bit about hunter, seems a lot like BST from FF seeing that your main goal is to have a pet helping you at all times, but... is this class good for quests, parties, making gold and stuff?

I want to be able to do good with my first char so I can maybe later get some other chars with good gear and stuff.

Hunters are great for solo. I dont often hear: "We need a hunter for our group" but they can still get into instances. There are alot of hunters and rogues....

Rogues are among the highest single target DPS and are also strong solo, fury Warriors can do almost as much damage and get to wear heavy armor. (This may be getting nerfed in the BC with "Rage normalization" Also War's have it a bit rougher solo grind/questing.

Mages are daresay more usefull as DPS in groups than rogues because of AOE and crowd control. They are glass cannons like BLM's in FFXI but with ok soloing ability due to AOE and frost nova kiting.

Warlocks are kind of a combo DD with a pet for soloing and fantastic Damage over time spells.

There's alot to say about all the jobs but thats my experience with DD's in a nutshell from a former FFXI player.

Well, there are a number of DD (referred to as DPS - Damager per second in WoW) classes in WoW. If you are looking for pure melee DPS classes, that narrows it down to three classes: Rogue, Warrior, and Druid.

Druids are more of a hybrid class so they will not have as good DPS as the Warrior or the Rogue, but they have a lot more utility. They can heal, tank, and DPS, depending on spec.

Warriors are pretty much what you'd expect them to be from FFXI with the one sole difference being that THEY are the main tanks in this game. But if you spec them with DPS talents, they can be very good DPS as well. Warriors can wear the highest armor class (plate) and can use all weapons. They're very gear dependent but can absolutely tear other classes apart with the correct gear and spec. Or they can be awesome tanks with great damage mitigation. It all depends on how you spend your talent points.

Rogues are simply a pure melee DPS class. It's always their main roll, they would be more akin to thieves, but more devistating. Their armor class is rather low (leather) but they tend to rack up the highest melee DPS, sometimes warriors can out-dps them, but not often. The have the ability to stealth around and backtap, stun, all kinds of fun stuff. Rogue is arguably the most fun class to play in PvP.

Yes, all classes are 'good' in this game. There are no useless classes that are unable to get groups for whatever reason; WoW is a lot more forgiving in that aspect. Blizzard actually promotes unique play styles.

But yeah, Hunters are a very good and popular class and they are somewhat similar to BST. Their primary attacks are ranged so maybe it's more of a cross between a Ranger and BST. Anyway, overall the are a very fun class and very good for players just starting out.

So to sum everything up, try either a Rogue or a Hunter for your first toons IMO. They are both very fun classes with a good amount of survivability and can grind very effeciently.

Good luck and welcome to Warcrack.

General rule of thumb: there is no UBER class when it comes to being needed in a group.

People in WoW don't just throw a bunch of (pre-nerf) rangers and summoners at bosses. All 9 classes are loved and welcomed. There are just more of some classes available than others.

In my opinion, Mage, especially evident in Battlegrounds (PvP instances)because they are expendable (mana burn, die, repeat). Mage has great CC (Crowd Control) as well as heavy Damage spells. Rogues, like Master Shogun stated, are the highest single target DPS in the game (geared correctly).

They are all good, it really just boils down to personal taste. Play what makes you happy and what you feel like staring at for hours upon days.

Depends how you look at it. Fury warriors aren't getting the brunt of the nerf, Arms warriors are, and that's why i suspect Arms is getting the improved rage generation talent (imo a horrible 41 point talent). Although the criticals not equalling double rage anymore is a kick in the face.

As far as solo grind/questing i haven't had any problems yet. And i'm always invited to tank for instances.
