New to Wow with a few questionsFollow

I hit end game on FFXI and have just moved full time to WoW. I have a few questions I hope you guys don't mind helping me with.

1) My wife wants to play but she hates using the mouse to loot. Is there a way to set a macro or Hotkey so that she can just use the keyboard?

2) I'v been leveling Engineering but I find that a few Schematics are never up on the Stormwind or Ironforge AH. If I find one while playing my Elf can I send money to it from my main to buy then send it via mail to myself? If so can I do this if I make a hoard character on the same server? Or am I stuck waiting for that .001 drop or the off chance that someone will sell the Schematics I want/need? ( really want to make a mechanical squirrel)

3) My mining is 57. I seldom gain a point from mining copper or smelting. Big vains are I think level 60. Is there another ore somewhere I can mine and smelt to get the levels I need to be able to do the big vain?

4) What is the rule of thumb for soloing Elites? I'v been trying Vagash as a lvl 13 hunter with a boar pet and talents in marksmanship. Yet he continues to tear me up with non stop knock downs. ( I get him to 1/4 before he goes postal) Is there a player level vs monster level standerd for elites?

5) Do you need to party or can you hit 60 with out parties? If you do need to party what is the standerd level to start grouping and where should a dwarf hunter do so?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but I figure this is a good start. Thank you ahead of time. :)

Welcome to the World (of Warcraft) !

1) No, I don't think there's any legal way to loot without using the mouse.

2) Yes, you can mail stuff to your other characters, but only within factions. Horde can't mail stuff to Alliance, and vice versa. So, yeah, you're basically stuck until someone auctions the schematic you want or you find it yourself.

3) I've no real experience with Mining, sorry.

4) My personal rule-of-thumb is I avoid Elites until they're green for me. Honestly, most elites are intended for a group to take down. The higher up you get, the worse the power disparity gets between equal-level elites and players (a 12th lvl character probably can take a level 10 elite, but a 50 elite will eviscerate a lvl 52 most of the time). Some classes can take elites easier than others. Warlocks and Hunters seem to be able to take them down a bit earlier than, say, a warrior or druid can. A lot of it depends on your own abilities, too. A hunter who knows how to kite well can take virtually anything...

5) You certainly can solo all the way to 60. You can group at any time, but you only really need groups for the end-game instance content (Zul'Gurub, An'Qiraj, Molten Core, etc.). The various lower-level instances are really intended as party content, of course. This isn't FFXI, though, and you can solo most of the game...

Again, welcome to WoW, and feel free to ask anything!

Well, no "Wahtz teh most bestest h4XX0r3d 1337 class!!11one!eleven" type of posts, of course...

If your wife will play on a separate account, you can put up a schematic for cheap on the neutral AH, then transfer it, but getting the gold to the horde character to do this can be difficult.

You have to use the mouse to attack an enemy, click your abilities, and really accomplish anything in WoW without a controller app. Even then you'd still need the mouse the click on quest text, etc.. The only help i could say is the hold Shift when you right click to loot and it autoloots everything.

Stormwind, IF and Darnassus AH are all the same AH. Effectively yes you can send things to yourself (via mail, but it takes a real life hour). If you make a Horde character and get something your alliance wants, take it to booty bay or any other nuetral AH, put it up, log out, and log in with your alliance and buy it from that AH. (This is also the only way to transfer money).

Tin will get you to 100ish, Silver same, Then Iron goes til 150, It takes a while and you'll end up mining ALOT.

It completely depends on the Job. As a paladin you could probaly solo an elite 4 or 5 levels higher than you if it was alone. As a Hunter maybe 1 or 2 levels higher AFTER you are 30ish. Below Lv 20 you really don't have enough abilites or HP to contend with elites higher than you, General rule is elites are their level+5 in stats and HP.

And yes, you can solo to 60 should you desire. I don't recommend it, but hey.

I have another uber nooblet question. I have a fishing pole yet I can't seem to get it to work right. Do I need some sort of bait in the ammo slot? I just went with what the pole descript and and fishermen trainer indicated.

Thank you for the warm welcome by the way, it is a welcome change from the FF end game drama club. :)

For mining - you have to visit the mining trainer every so often so he can teach you how to smelt progressively higher ores though you can mine higher ores as soon as your skill level is high enough. Now that your mining is at 57, you need to visit the mining trainer so that you can raise your skill cap to 150 from 75 (if you haven't already done so). You will find higher level ores like tin and silver once you leave your starting zone - probably for Loch Modan since Vagash is in the Dwarf starting area. Westfall also has tin and silver as well as copper.

Fishing - You use the icon in your skill menu (or drag the icon to your interface like I do) to cast. When you have cast successfully you will see a bobber with a couple of feathers. You watch the bobber until it dips into the water indicating a 'bite' and then you right click on it. You will get lots of 'fish got away' messages but your skill goes up every time you catch something and the higher your skill, the less fish get away. Higher zones have higher fishing skill requirements so you may find that the fish start getting away again when you move to a higher zone.

WRONG! (and this response gets you a rate-down as well. You cannot purchase anything you put up in any AH with a toon that uses the same account. You need a friend to perform the purchase and send (or give) you the money.

To fish, equip the pole, find a suitable body of water, then use the "fishing" skill, found in your spellbook, under the "General" tab. Then watch the bobber in the water. If it jerks quickly (accompanied by a splashing sound), then right click on it to pull in your catch. If you're too low level, you might fail to bring in the fish. If this happens too frequently, use a lure...

Lures in WoW are actually used on the equipped fishing pole and temporarily raise your fishing skill for 5-10 minutes, depending on the specific lure used.

No bait is technically required, just an equipped fishing pole and the fishing skill.

I drag the fishing skill (from the spellbook) into an unused action button. Use fishing buddy to switch from weapons to equipping the pole (and vice-versa). It makes fishing much easier.

I have Fishing Buddy set up so I just hit a hotkey to swap weapons and pole and then right-click to cast into an appropriate body of water.
It's nice.

You used to be able to buy your own auctions. If you haven't done it for a while, you wouldn't know about the change.

The rest of Paracleet's post, including the mining information, was very useful. Please try to balance the rating out over the entire post instead of just rating him down for one mistake. Did you rate him up for the other useful information?

Didn't think so. So I took the liberty.

You can assign hotkeys for your special abilities/spells/professions so you won't have to click them. With the expansion or even maybe this update they are replacing the 'shift click' to auto loot to have it be an option in the interface menu so you can just click once and move on about your business.

*Be patient with the mining it will go up just collect and bunch and do it all at once and you'll see results.

I hit endgame in FFXI with 4 different jobs and the only time I used the mouse was when I was fishing and a GM did a pop up on me asking if I was legit so I know how you feel.

1) She's pretty much stuck using the mouse. I find that tab works somewhat like the '0' key for FFXI except that the range is horrible. It doesn't even seem to select mobs in my casting range and nowhere near the ones I can see. Keyboard is great for macros (1 through = for hotkeys).

2) Yes you can send items to yourself if they are the same faction. If you want to get items from your horde character to an alliance character you need to use 2 different accounts (you and your wife have different accounts?) You can transfer money this way as well (put up a light leather on your horde for 10g with your char, buy it with your wife's alliance char, same with items you want to transfer).

3) I just hit level 11 last night on my Warlock in Elwynn Forest; I only had a 2nd 6 slot bag and ended up running to town with ~50 copper ore due to running across stuff while questing. This was more than enough to smelt it all and hit level 63 from 50. I have yet to see anything other than copper but I haven't been out of the forest as of yet.

4) Elites are about the same as an NM; the level doesn't mean a whole lot. As someone else stated they are about their level +5, I disagree. I don't seem to have any problem hitting a same level elite but they have a ton more HP and attack power than a mob only 5 above them. Generally unless it's green (click on it and look at the color of their level) I would leave it alone until you have more experience of what you can and cannot take. If all else fails just run - they do give up unlike mobs in FFXI at times.

5) Level 57 mage all done solo through a combonation of quests and killing mobs. Quests are actually useful for raising your repuation (think fame) and you won't max it out nearly as fast as FFXI. Hitting honored will save you 10% from vendors and that's useful considering you'll be buying arrows and pet food (I assume, I don't play Hunter)

In order to fish you need to have trained the skill. You can train fishing, cooking and first aid w/o any concern and I would advise you to do so. You can have up to 2 "main" skills which include mining, herbilism, skinning, tailoring, leathercraft, blacksmithing, enchanting (did I miss one?).

As a first character I would advise you keep mining and pick up skinning if you haven't already. This should provide income even if you NPC the results (I never bother trying to AH scraps but maybe you'll have better luck).

Another thing about fishing differences - you don't need to pull up high level fish to raise your skill. You can sit in stormwind and pull up the same worthless fish from a skill of 1(use a bauble to temp raise your skill and make it faster) all the way to 300 (providing you train at 75, 150 and do the quest at 225)

Another little hint, add-ons are legal in WoW as opposed to FFXI. You need to get the kind that are "approved", I usually go to www.curse-gaming.com to check what is available. Third party programs are not ok so no bots, etc but I'm sure you knew that.

If you have any other questions about WoW vs. FFXI gameplay feel free to PM me. No flames as they will be ignored of course.
