This exact thread is also post in my journal.

The idea behind the contest is fairly simple. There are 100 unidentified pictures. You need to figure out where they're from. (My hard drive does not count as an answer.)

Some details...

1) The pictures were all taken by me, on my hunter, while mapping the outdoor zones. As a result, all of the pictures are from outdoor areas. No instances. No cities. No strange bannable areas (although I was tempted.) No expansion zones. This is not to say that pictures won't be in a building or a cave, but they will be from an outdoor zone. And all the pictures should be places you can see, although maybe not from the same camera angle.

2) The pictures are set up to generally get more difficult. Although I have done my best to throw you off with many of these pictures, I can't make it a perfect order for everyone. Some difficulty factors include camera angle, remoteness, picture order, ambiguity, and zone choice. Every outdoor zone is represented one to three times. Each set of 10 pictures is in a different thread in my journal. (links below)

3) They're all .jpg files in 1024x768. I hope that doesn't present an issue for viewing, but I will resize them if I really have to. All 100 pictures collectively are 10mb on my HD, so each page will be 1mb on average.

4) You will get 1 point for the right zone, and 1 point for letting me know it wasn't a lucky guess. With 100 pictures, that's a max score of 200. Suffice it to say I have tried to not pick pictures where you could guess the right zone by looking at it. (In other words, I avoid snow pictures in Alterac, Dun Morogh and Winterspring.)

5) Answer submissions should consist of a list of the screenshot number, zone the screenshot is in, and what section of the zone it is in. Please email or PM me text that only contains "number, zone, specific location" separated by commas for all 100. I can easily convert that to an excel spreadsheet for quick checking. E-mail entries should be sent to azuarc@allakhazam.com and have the header "Screenshot Entry" and contain your username somewhere. (Don't get carried away with the specific location -- telling me that the Night Elf-looking portal thing in Duskwood is "middle of the zone" works in some cases, but I would much sooner be told that place is called The Twilight Grove. Check the new zone maps if you forget the name of a point of interest!)

6) The winner will receive a one-year premium subscription to Allakhazam. Pending a tie, the winner will be selected randomly out of the highest scores. Maximum of two entries per person, and you may not get your score back quickly cause I'm a lazy *******.

7) The contest will run until December 21st. The winner and the answers will be post shortly thereafter in an announcement, hopefully by the 25th.

8) This is as official as I get with contest rules. Whenever you've read contest rules from other sweepstakes and things, just mentally cut and paste the legal mumbo jumbo here.

9) This is supposed to be fun. I am not enforcing silence because I want you to enjoy it, and that will likely include discussion on the boards. But keep in mind that the winner will be the person with the highest score, so spilling the beans on every picture you know may not be a smart idea if you hope to win.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Oh yeah, might I emphasize...don't post your answers *here*. Leave this thread for actually discussing the contest itself, or how awesome I am. Especially the latter.

You are UBER-AWESOME(OK, now I'm done with my buttkissing Smiley: grin).

Anyway, it's a nifty idea for a contest. I probably won't participate, but I love the screenies and hope you'll be posting the answers when it's all done.

Thankyou, thankyou. However, you're only 3 spots or so back on Dana's top 250....so, um, grats on 4617?

And thanks, Poldaran. I hope people enjoy. Fortunately it was a lot less work because I was going everywhere anyway, but I still had to sift through a good thousand screenshots to pick the ones I wanted, and put them up.

You are awesome Az. You have given me a whole new way to waste time at work.

Went through, the first 70 pics. I'm missing 23 and have only guessed on 4 of the completed ones.

Az, I hate you know. I'm going to miss the 20 man instances tonight so I can wander around Azeroth and figure out where your sadistic mind took you.

You're going to need more than one night if you intend on finding everywhere I went...especially since some of the pictures are much more difficult to find for someone who has no access to stealth (cat + Eyes of the Beast) or remotely placing their camera. (Eagle Eye) Feign Death certainly helped me get around as well.

edit: Oh, and the pictures at the end are gonna be brutal on ya. I had a guildmate who is known for her exploration take a look at them, and she made short work of the first 90, (which scared the hell out of me)...and got absolutely nowhere on the last 10. (Thanks again, Yaone.)

And KT, don't make me go editing your posts again. >)

You actually gave your hand away on some of them (your kitty is stealthed in one of the pics). I took a look at the last 10. I'm (fairly) certain on 3, and have guesses on 2 more. The other 5 could be any number of places.

Good contest though. Sounds like your exploration friend is going to blow me out of the water though. Is she entering the contest? =P

I doubt it. Especially since I gave her the answer to a few of the late ones she couldn't get.

And yes, I know I gave my hand away a little. I just don't want people coming back and saying, "Hey, what do you mean that's not in Stormwind!?" Call it fair warning.

However, what does the cat being stealthed have to do with it? Just means I didn't walk up to the spot myself, but that's not to say I didn't happen to send the cat just for the sake of convenience. Most of the pictures neither Decoy nor I are in were taken with Eagle Eye. Some because I *can't* get there, and some because I simply didn't feel like walking/fighting to that spot. After you take enough pictures from FD, you learn it's easier to use your other tools. Photographing was only a secondary purpose in visiting the zones, remember.

BTW, Riggy, were you the one that started the screenshot thread a couple months ago? To whomever that was, I did have this idea in the back of my mind prior to that thread, but it did give me a little bit of encouragement to follow through.

oh, and for the time being, if anyone wants to PM me how they think they're doing, I'm kinda curious which shots people are having trouble with. (Which is not to say I'm gonna dumb things down. I don't want any perfect scores. Just curious.)

Can I get boosted to Scholar or Sage if I win instead of the one year premium and give the premium to runner-up if I win?

Nice contest!

I skimmed through all the pics and recognized quite a few. I'm also sad to say, there are some I have NO idea. I may give it a shot anyway.

I'm just worried that following tomorrow, people will be much more concerned with new game experiences than with anything going on on the site for a bit. But maybe the downtime from the patch will get people to spend some time looking at pics, trying to place them.

Woot! I've got at least 4 definites from that list, and 4 more have guesses.

I'm going to do a partial submission just so I can get those off the list. :P

Consider how many strikethroughs my previous message now has. Which is not to say that's entirely your doing, but a lot of it was...including the last three!
