* 0. Before the Storm – PvP Update | 11/28/2006 08:01:49 PM CST

The next World of Warcraft content update, “Before the Storm,” will include the new PvP Honor System, as well as other new features that will prepare us for The Burning Crusade expansion. We are currently planning to release this content update next Tuesday, December 5. Please note that the patch date is still subject to change, and we will keep you informed of any changes to the plan as they happen.

If the patch goes live as planned, this will be the last week that new PvP ranks under the old Honor System can be earned, as the patch will immediately introduce the new Honor System. We will run one final honor calculation on December 5 and update everyone’s ranking accordingly on that date so that players who achieve a new rank for that week have the opportunity to display that title on their character. Please note, however, that no new PvP rewards will be unlocked for purchase with this final “old Honor System” calculation, regardless of any increase in rank.

For those who have been seeking high-rank PvP armor and weapons, note that the new Honor System will still include these item rewards, and it will actually be easier to earn these items under the new Honor System than under the old Honor System. Those who wish to see how their PvP abilities measure up against other players will still be able to do so under the new Arena System.

Edit: Edited to clean up the quote a little.

I'm not sure whether to be excited or not.

On the bright side, I'll be able to get Master-Sergeant and the new talents. On the not-so-bright side, I'll have to start from scratch earning honor to get the items.

Hmmm.

Thanks for this information. It's nice to have a date to expect the patch going live. (even if it's changed later)

=)

In conclusion:
GIMMETHEPATCH!

I'm very happy about it. I'll prob start pvping again for the Marshal and Field Marshal gear. I made rank 11 back in October and decided to stop because I knew the honor wipe was coming.

I'm so freaking glad I started rep grinding with AV about a week and a half ago and am almost done. The new system may be faster to get a specific item or two, but judging by the screenshot I saw of the PVP rewards vendors on PTR, it would have taken me probably three times as long to get all the items I wanted (TUF, Glacial Blade, Immovable Object, Don Julio's Band, and the cloak and neck). TUF alone is 40 AV marks and some honor, which equates out to at least 30 games for Horde v_v

I guess this also means I need to get off my butt and finally finish off my AV rep to get myself an offhand or two.

Well, looks like I'm taking a break from the honor grind till the patch hits.

.....and I wanted to reach Rank 13 too.

Sorry about him guys, the tranq musta worn off...

Joking aside (you'll have to have read the thread about the PTR prices to get the joke) I certainly hope the date doesn't change. I've been eagerly awaiting this patch, even with the nerf hunters are going to (likely) be getting with the revamp and class tweaks but not the re-itemization.

Ouch, gotta get off my *** and finish AV rep. I'm in the middle of honored, and gonna need exalted for the lobotomizer and the ring... Maybe the mount as well.

All in all around 200 gold and a lot of AV runs (should have picked up on AV weekend, but I missed out)

Smiley: laugh

I'm one of those people that adapts to medication really really quickly(2 doses of vicodin the last time the doc gave me some, and it stopped working).

Honestly, the weird mood lately has been due to a combination of longing for the patch(calculated at a 56 dps increase for me) and the fact that I start to go a little crazy when I go more than about 7 days without a day off. I'm on day 9 now...one more to go.

The tour group didn't help my sanity either.

I wonder if I can horde Smiley: smile up on the BG Tokens this week and get a (very small) jump on my earnings for the new gear / equipment ?

It's nice that they are doing the "one last update" to rank... though of course it won't mean anything except for the title itself. This is counter to what they've been saying all along - that there would be no "last update".

EDIT: And in other news... my guess about the patch date was right! If only my rolls would be so lucky...

Baron, that's a good idea...does anyone know if it would be feasible to get 20 of each before this weeks patch so that you could get the jump, as miniscule as it might be?

4400 more AB rep to exalted, if I can manage 1-1.5K a day I'll be fine, and I should be able to do that if I avoid strings of preforms. You guys on Illidan, stop playing, you're too good at the pvp.

They appear to be unchanged so I see no reason why not. I haven't had much time to PVP the last couple weeks due to raiding and real life (damn holidays and whatnot ;) ), but I haven't been turning in any of my tokens :) Get 20 of each before Tuesday and you could be as little as 12 battles away from a sexy black mount!
#17 Nov 29 2006 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
why couldn't they wait one more week? That is the day before my last final! I could have hit 1million + honor and hit a much higher rank!

So here is the question that I have(and can't recall from all the other "free" respecs I've gone through). They say everyone gets a "free" respec thanks to the new talent trees and talents being wiped clean to use again. But if I, as say a level 45 mage, learned up through Blast Wave(rank 3) and Pyroblast(rank 5), I will no longer know those spells and will have to spend money to retrain them up to those levels. Am I right? Hardly "free"! Not that I am complaining, I am just asking. I can see alot of people not being too thrilled with that prospect.

If he's refering to the patch, there are MANY things that will affect PvE. The new talents, changes to aspects of most classes game mechanics (general healer and nuker downranking changes, druid dodge formula, druid spirit regen formula, warrior rage normalization, hunter RAP and crit formula, HoT's stacking, DoT's and HoT's getting a better coefficient from damage/healing gear, the AoE changes).

So yea, plenty of PvE effect in this patch =P By the way, anybody else here have a healer they plan on getting the GM Warhammer/HWL Battle Mace? My druid can't wait to get his warhammer =P

So is it true that getting HWL gear or wahtever Blizz calls it now , will it be easier to get to get those nice epics items than before???

you can get them easy, just takes alot of time for WSG ones. Cause its 50% win ratio at 60 for me. and about 15-2hour games AB is set on how fast horde get all 5 points. and AV was the fastest since im ally. 20 in 4 hours.

so in a weeks time its possible to get 20 of each.. if you dont do much anything else. Do WSG first since its the hardest one time wise.

Also AV/ab/wsg all day monday cause they will save in your mailbox.

I'm not sure about it either, but I vaguely remember respeccing before and not having to retrain Nature's Grasp. I think if I'd had to, I would have been upset and remembered the incident.

Then again, I don't think NG is a spell that requires training. Just putting a talent into it gives it to you.

Hmm...

I sure hope you won't have to retrain spells when you get the free respec, because that stuff gets expensive.

You do have to repurchase the spells when you respec, I know this as I have done a LOT of respecs. It used to be expensive, but they somewhat recently lowered the costs on the trainable spells that you have to have a talent to get(Pyroblast rank 2 or Ice Barrier Rank 2, for instance).

This is of course assuming they don't change it again, but I'm sure it'll remain as it is now.
