Barov PVP quest (Horde)Follow

Hi all

Funny (though seriously annoying) situation happened last night that nearly got me and a big chunk of the guild banned. We were doing the Barvo PVP fight playing horde so we where at Chillwind Camp to kill Barvo after 3 failed pull attempts because of alliance joining in we decided to wipe the camp of all Alliance NPCs and PCs including the flight master. So we send out a shout on guild and now we are 15 strong and holding the camp nicely and wiping alliance all over the place.

After about 10 mins of clearing camp and any Alliance that turn up as raid leader I get a PM from a GM and he tells me there have been reports we have been ganking the area, camping the graveyard (just across the road from the camp) and using evade positions to attack from. I explain to the GM what we are doing, they then go on to say that we have 5 mins to finish the quest and leave the area or we could be suspended for inappropriate behavior.

I ve seen the alliance do this a number of times at the Bulwark (where the alliance Barvo NPC is) or holding Thorium Point or Marshall Refuge. If your in a contested area PVP should be expected and if Blizzard have a quest that forces PVP surely what we where doing was within bounds and we should not have been reported or the report should have not been acted on.

I ve opened a ticket on this I do not expect any answer but just managed to really p1ss me off.

What are evade positions? Anyway that's pretty stupid that the GM contacted you. Too bad if alliance can't gather some ppl to take your guys out. Its a PvP server.

I'm the softest, cuddliest CareBear here and even I think that's silly.

Sure, it might not be "nice" to take out the flightmaster but:

(a) Blizzard made them attackable.

(b) Cutting off lines of support is a classic military tactic.

(c) Blizzard designed that quest.

(d) Ganking/camping is specifically called out as NOT being a reportable offense on PvP servers. And if this is a PvE server, you can only be camped and ganked if you WANT to be.

Just curious... what does one have to do with the other?

Well I think if the FM is down people can't fly there?

Also it's easier to kill allies without NPC's wailing on you at the same time.

I think the issue was the evade thing, one of your members was maybe on a bugged location. You should have stood up to the GM, said "look we're not doing anything wrong if you have some proof of someone using an exploit then address them and not our group as a whole."

If that wasn't working ask for a senior GM, it's very clear now that GM's can make mistakes, but this seems over the top.

No, it does not stop people from flying in, only flying out.

I have to call shenanigans on this one. If you're on a PvP server or even a PvE with PvP your flag on you should expect to be attacked. I find it difficult to believe that a GM would even respond to a report about "ganking." Maybe they responded because some of your members were on Evade points or rooftops, but they certainly shouldn't have said anything to you because you are the raid leader, they would have addressed those people individually, so yea that's why I call shenanigans on this.

Me and some of my friends were reported for something similiar. A GM told us to stop. I asked if this was a PvP server.....he said yes. I asked if the NPCs we were killing were properly flagged for PvP....he said yes. I said do what you think you can to me but Im just PvPin on a PvP server.

He instructed me to stop, I said I wouldnt unless he tells me what I did wrong. He left us alone after that, no one got in trouble.

I have heard other stories like this. And I believe that the GMs purposely try to intimidate us when they get griefing complaints. I think they just figure that you will be scared cause they are a GM and then they wont have angry players on the other side.

Blizzard did not design this game for PvP. They only added PvP servers to attract players like me who will not play an MMO unless it has PvP. But in the end blizz does not support PvP.

I don't know, when I first started the game I went to Tanaris as a level 22 Gnome Mage (don't ask how I got there...) and there was an Orc hunter that climbed up onto the walls of the city and kept killing me. He was using the wall to evade being attacked by the NPCs. I sent a message complaining to the GM about it because there was no "suitable PvP solution" to someone that is breaking the rules; I received back an e-mail reply (not in game, but out of the game on my hotmail account) that said basically "you are playing on a PvP server and we do not interfere if there is a problem between two factions when there is a PvP solution available to you." In other words if I wanted him to stop it was my responsibility to stop him or get someone else to do it for me. I didn't have a problem with the "PvP solution" but I did have a problem with the fact he was breaking the rules in order to kill me (rooftop camping) but still nothing was done about it.

So from my own personal experience of being on the side of the reporter I can say that Blizzard doesn't appear to just tell people to stop PvPing, they have to be doing something wrong, but even then they probably don't say anything.

It depends on the roof, some of them you can get on easy, so not an xploit. Like in bootbay you can just drop on the roof when your above them.

So the PvP solution may have been to find a way to the top of the roof.

Either way sounds like you got a good GM, well I guess not good for you. But in my multiple run ins with GMs they seem to try and discourage griefing, even if its legal. They always try to tell me to just move on. I could understand if I was ganking lowbies, but when they are the same level I say let me grief them until they finally beat me or leave.

But, Blizz likes to KEEP its customers. You might get irritated at being pushed along, but you're not going to quit over. People DO quit over griefing, and Blizz values their $15/mo more than they value your good opinion.

LOL! people don't quit over griefing, they just cry and moan in general chat and sometimes things change (never udnerestimate the power of stupid people, in large groups or no) that is why goblin bruisers beat the hell out of you now whether you are on a rooftop or not, because the WAAAAmbulance was the size of a football stadium, so rather than quiting they just whined and made PvP servers even more carebear.

To the OP, I feel your pain, had the same issue with that quest a couple nights ago (was helping a guildy) alliance (especially one hunter) jsut wouldnt go away. We only killed a few NPCs (the elite guy in there and that vendor near the front) but all the alliance we found. finally got the barov kill and never had problem with a GM.

I agree with the poster a couple above me, sometimes the GMs just try to intimidate you with BS since you are not breaking any rules but they just want to make it look like they answered a complaint. I also have received a similair email regarding greifing where the response is basically "you're on a PvP server, do something about it yourself".
