Should I buy a mount?Follow

#1 Nov 27 2006 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
I’m a night elf druid and I just recently hit lvl 40. This is my first character, and I need some advice about mounts. Money is not the issue. I’ve got plenty enough to buy one.

This is what I’ve been thinking about. I’m a Druid, meaning I have the druid travel form. This gives me 40% increased move speed. Here’s the question. Is the extra 20% move speed that I'd get with a mount worth my 80g? Or would I be better off saving my money for other gear? What else do I need to spend it on?

Thanks for any advice

As a Shaman, i had ghost owlf(40%) and the mount was definatly a good upgrade. If moneys not the issue, you should get the mount and the lvl 40 skills. All the gear you can get off the AH can be eventually replaced, weras the mount will stay until lvl 60.

Buy it.

The speed difference does matter.

Don't think twice go out and buy it.

The speed increase is 20%. So let's say you play a session and during that entire session you were traveling between large distances for a total of 1 hour altogether. With that 20% that's 12 minutes. Let's say every day you spent 1 hr of traveling time. In a week that's almost an hour and a half. Now let's say you spent that hour and a half per week of getting xp. If you could pay 80g to obtain lvl 60 a few weeks or months faster would you? Now ask yourself if the mount is really worth it.

I agree with the others. The speed difference is very noticeable. So even if you only solo, the extra speed is a good thing.

But if you ever plan to travel with other players in a group, such as following them to an instance or simply running to town, you will need to have a mount to keep up with them or you’ll be left behind. This can be a bad thing when traveling through mob infested areas to reach your destination.

I also feel that buying a mount at level 60 is a good idea for the same reasons. I have epic mounts on two of my characters and I feel so slow now when playing my other characters.

I agree, buy it.
Nothing makes me madder than someone who doesnt have a mount,
Running ZF last week, we had the chance to skip over some enemies (I never knew this could be done, but it can).

Not many but everyone tried to jump up on the railing, and there was another shaman who only had ghost wolf, and for that reason, we could not skip over the other people we had to take them out.

Fine and doodle, we did, everyone else in the group was pretty mad though, because we had just ran this place 2 times before that, and skipping anything was surely a better option.

No deaths, no pain, just a little extra work, all in all not bad, but still if you got the $$ just buy it. You wont regret it.

Buy it. You will want to be able to travel in a group mounted.

Also, did you think about the fact that you probably cant get epic riding skill without the lvl 40 skill, and the lvl 70 flying mount skill probably wont be attainable without the earlier skills.

Get the mount. That's one of the highlights of hitting Level 40. Your next upgrade is Level 60.

I have to agree. I'm a druid and the mount really made a difference. Another druid friend didn't buy his until about level 47, and he was constantly getting left behind. The speed difference is noticeable and it looks great too - buy it! :)

Absolutely, definitely, 100%, buy it. I remember falling in love with travel form at level 30 - getting the mount at 40 was just as significant an upgrade.

Now I just wish I'd bought the epic mount for my druid instead of the mage. Doh.

There used to be a shmuck of a shaman on my server that refused to buy a mount because he had ghost wolf.

Needless to say, we never waited up for him when questing/traveling together.

Also, the mithril spurs, carrot on a stick, and riding enchant on gloves do not change your ghost wolf/travel form speeds. So even if they were 60% speed increase, I'd still get the mount, for that little bit "extra".

When i hit 40 warrior i hesitated since for me at the time it was a lot of gold. I asked the forum members opinion and everyone said to buy the horse. I listened and bought the horse which is the best decision i ever made in this game. The horse makes my questing, grinding and gathering far more efficient. Buy the horse.

There is no doubt that u should buy it, the extra speed actually pays for itself in the extra efficiency duiring grinding, questing, and hey ZF gets alot faster with a mount.

Also if you intend to do Alterac Valley battleground when you hit level 51 you'll definately want the mount. Otherwise at the initial rush you'll still be half way down the bg when everyone else has started fighting.
