Which Video Card?Follow

#1 Nov 07 2006 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
I am going to get a new video card, but am debating what the real difference between the 2 I am looking at is. Anyone see anything that is worth getting over the other? Both are ATI but one is the 1300 series, and the other is the 1600 series. Here are the links

1300 ATI

1600 ATI

The information that was posted under the so called 'specifications' is quite pathetic. The 1600 blows away the 1300 in every benchmark imaginable (graphics wise of course). It is definitely worth your money. By the way, I recommend shopping at places like newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com, etc instead of the amjor places like bestbuy and circuit city as 99% of the time it is much cheaper for just as good/better customer service (newegg especially).

I don't know... i've had some bad experiences with newegg CS in the past. Avoiding answering my questions, charging a restocking few for a DEFECTIVE item and not willing to refund it... But, i've also had some good experiences so it evens out. Personally I prefer buying from the stores around me, but I tend to stay away from Best Buy and Circuit City.

As for the OP, i'd say get the 1600 also. Although i'd say find somewhere else to buy it. The info they listed really was terrible, and that alone should be a deterent from buying from them. They offer you basically none of the info you need to make a good choice buying.

Maybe I am in a bit of a good situation. I have a personal phone number of one of their customer service represnatives from one of the forums that I frequent (ocforums.com) and they have many customer service people from many companies (mushkin, ocz, newegg, etc) because they like to keep the enthusiast crowd happy.

Well, I did say I also had some good experiences with them... maybe it just got lost in the masses or something (I never got a reply and it totally slipped my mind until just as I was posting that, and by now I bet its WAY too late since this was like 2+ months ago)

I actually just built a 2nd PC so that my wife could play WOW aswell and I got an 1600 512mb from Newegg for her PC. I have a 1300 in my PC, other then the Video cards we Pretty have the same PC and let me tell you there is a very noticeable differcnce between my PC and hers, as a matter of fact her PC blows mine out of the water. I was totaly amazed and the difference that card made.
And as far as where to get it. I actaully work for one of those Big Box electronic Retailers and still chose to buy my parts from Newegg. Much better pricing better selection. I got my card for about 145USD Hope I was able to help

Yes get the x1600. Waiting for newegg to ship mine XD

I've never had any problems with newegg.com , i always seem to get most of my orders before the expected delivery date, which is great! (Not all the time though.)

On some purchases newegg has a 1 year replacement policy (except for cpus, im not sure about video cards) but i really have never had to send anything back.

Good Luck!

After reading some of these posts, I'm thinking of putting the money I was going to use for a flat panel monitor into this video card instead. Thanks for the inspiration.

to give you some ingame info, i got a X1300 in my 2.8 Ghz dualcore and i'm getting like 30 FPS average wich is fairly low if you ask me. So either i screwed up some settings or the card aint too good for WoW

I realized I didn't know what video card I currently had so I checked when I got home.

LOL

I'll be honest and admit that I know very little about computer hardware. It just strikes me as funny that my video card is worth 20 bucks. It may be time to upgrade.

For my mini overhaul (rebuilding my PC in a better cooled case, preparing to eventually replace things part by part as I have money.) I'm just looking at a Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB card. I really won't have the money for an X1600.

For Petes sake I'm running a GeForce FX5200 128MB right now and it BLOWS. Anything's an upgrade over this crapper.
