Item Display UpgradesFollow

I've made a few changes and enhancements to item display.

New Feature: Item Comparison

Premium users have access to a new search, which compares a given item to items of the same type/slot based on configurable criteria.

For example, you might want to find all the items better than Smiths Trowsers which your level 21 hunter can get: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemcompare.html?ci=1310&binds=-1&stat1=0&statval1=&stat2=0&statval2=&stat3=0&statval3=&template=&sort1=agility&sortwt1=2&sort2=stamina&sortwt2=1&sort3=0&sortwt3=0&minlevel=&maxlevel=21&dmg_avg=&quality=-1&speed=0&effect=0&showall=0&search=1

I've added some basic class stat templates, however some of them are just guesses based on limited experience with the class. If you have a better suggestion for a starting point, please let me know.

Further to this feature is the addition of drop classifications.

Raid Items are items which are found 90% (or more) of the time in Raid environments. Any item which can only be found in MC, BWL, ZG for example.

Static items are items which can be found on specific creatures. PvP Vendor rewards also fall in this category. This category exists so you can include or exclude items which you might try to get by killing a specific monster over and over.

World items are random drops. Most items are world drops, and can be found on any creature of a given level range, or area. Some might only be found on any Scarlet Crusade mobs in Stratholme, or any level 18 to 20 monster in the world.

Quested and Crafted items should be self explanatory.

Items may have multiple tags, a raid item might also be a world item indicating that it's a random drop off any BWL mob (for example).

The dividing line between world and static is 5 drop sources.

Other features are to exclude all BoP items (for items you might find in the AH), or to limit to statistics of a certain value. ( must have a stamina of 4 to be considered, eg)

All feedback is appreciated!

I think the formulas need some work. It would be cool if you could:

(a) include other attributes in the formula, like +crit, +dmg, resists, etc.

(b) each user could set and save their own formulas, since people have different preferences.

That's great, but I've sent requests out before for attack power and chance crit modifiers in the past, and those would be imperative here. Hunters and rogues use those two, along with agility, as the predominant traits in choosing equipment. I know it might be a pain since they aren't listed as basic stat bonuses, but is there any hope of incorporating those into the search feature(s)?

Oh, and can the modifiers go beyond 10? Maybe add a 20, 30, 50? I forget the math breakdown off the top of my head, but I had an estimated conversion rate (oversimplified of course) for attack power to crit chance, but I know it was over 20:1. Additionally, weighted against "average damage", most other bonuses are going to pale, perhaps even at 10:1.

I'd really like to get spell modifiers into the search. +Def, +Atk, +Crit, etc.

And sure, can take the multipliers to 20 or whatever.

Wow that is very good work Illia!
I general formula many rogues use is
--
1 Agility = 1 Stamina = 2 Strength = .1% Crit. = .2% Dodge = .2% Parry = .13% To Hit = 2 Attack Power = 5 Daggers = 4 Any Resistance = 5 Health/5 Sec. = 50 Armor
--

What I would give (beside my membership!) to be able to simply plug in equivilences and get an "ideal" setup is unmentionable.

Hey while I might have your attention. Is there a way for weapons lists to default to the Ratio sort order? That would be great!

Maybe I screwed up, but clicking "reset" takes me back to the advanced search form instead of the item compare form. Is this only available from an item's page? Or will you also be adding an option to the left hand menu bar?

Edit: Re-reading your op says "for a given item" - I think that adequately answers my question (but I'm editing instead of erasing just in case I'm wrong).

The "Premium" link indicates that there are 2 pieces of functionality that I am supposed to have access to, but I can't figure out how to get to them;

"Item Comparisons.
Compare any item to others in the game to see how they stack up for your class."

This is your newly implemented feature, but I can't figure out how to access it other than from your link. And from your link I can't figure out how to change it so that I can compare other pieces of equipment.

"Item Upgrade Search.
Use your profile and specify the stats you wish to gain and where you wish to hunt and then bring up a list of the items that are direct upgrades to your current equipment."

Where do I do this?

Interesting idea. I don't know it's necessary to worry about ALL of those variables. As a hunter that has done a lot with math on items, I know that I've never even give a second though to half the stuff up there as explicit bonuses. I'd settle for just agi, AP, and crit. But if there were the option to do more, yeah, I'd probably try to set up some kind of equivalence relation.

Look up any item in the database, and right before the comments section for that item will be a "Item Compare" button. That's the way I've been testing it.

Edit:
Another thing to note is that when looking at an item (for example, the Draconian Deflector) and viewing the quick template options - most only show 2 weighted stats when in fact 3 are used for paladins, druids and shamans (only druids displays all 3).

Just another random nit-picky thought.

Any Item page should have the "Compare" button. Let me know if they don't it would be a bug.

I just added the link in, it's on the "Your Characters" page.

sweet!

One thing I've noticed is that the "hover over" item descriptions on the item comparison screen don't seem to be wide enough - the words "Damage" and "Speed" on the fourth line are showing up on top of each other.

It might just be my browser or specific search i guess.

attempted link to search

Actually, one other thing is that "of the animal" greens are weighted lower than they probably should be due to the removal of their stats. Probably not a big deal though.

This is completely brilliant, and I love that the first thing I did was look-up all the upgrades for my current character, and then I saw that there was a link for that :)

One thing though. This is me (Hello!): http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?294163

And this is my upgrades

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemcompare.html?pid=294163

It's a shame about the base items, but that's what I get for wearing greens :) The main thing I noticed is that there isn't any sorting, so the upgrades seem to be based on level. But this:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemcompare.html?pid=294163&template=hunter

is exactly what I'm looking for. Any way to have that as the link off "Your Characters", or make the template default to the right one?

This is really interesting to me but primary stats aren't useful when I'm consdering gear. As a rogue I generally consider the following things: health (same as sta), attack power, crit%, hit%, dodge%. AC is pretty consistent, parry is too rare and not that useful to worry about, and the other stats like str, agi, +daggers skill etc can all be converted into the ones i listed. (Agi gives you attack power, crit, and dodge.)

If you include some way to track that stuff, especially if you can set your own priorities (for instance, for me 16 AP = 1% crit) then I'd definitely consider paying for this feature.

I just used this feature today, very useful, gave me some good ideas of where to go next on my new main.

We've added the ability to count Crit %, and a few others (it's not an exaustive list, some are easier to parse than others).

+crit, +dodge, +parry, +damage when hit, +attack, +range attack, +defense.
