If you're stuck in the patch loop still, try downloading http://lucy.allakhazam.com/wr/wowreader.exe and replacing your current wowreader.exe with that one.

As for the timeouts on lua data, theres not much you can do at the moment, but I'm working on a fix for it now.

Downloaded wowreader.exe. Replaced wowreader.exe with downloaded one.

Still looping.

Chatta:

You should try running a virus scan. It looks like wowreader uses hashes of wowreader.exe to detect new versions, and the hash can change if a virus infects it. If you can think of anything else that would modifying your .exe files, try disabling it.

rale: You may want to consider trapping this condition (i.e. updater updates wowreader.exe but then detects a new version again on next launch, OR maybe even better would be to detect changes in the hash of the local wowreader.exe between runs) and give a warning to the user.

One thing that stands out is that you're using a proxy server (localhost, port 8080). If it's a caching proxy of some sort thats behaving poorly, it could be giving you an old version of the wowreader.exe, or corrupting it somehow. If possible, I'd recommend disabling your proxy and trying again.

If that doesn't sort it out, then I'm going to say that a virus or something else must be corrupting the file, because its failing hash check even if you download it seperately.

You'll need to re-upload it.

Something is broken with set bonuses that grant stats.

My rogue ZG set bonus of 20 attack power and my PVP set bonus of 15 stamina are not currently being shown in my profile. 15 less stam and 20 less attack power than on my actual character.

http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?759632

The pvp set bonus always worked in the past, strange.

Hi,

I have recently downloaded WoWReader and have tried to use it. However after I click upload, it says sucess and everything, then I log on my account and there are no profiles there. Im probably an idiot and dont know what I'm doing but if someone could direct me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

The profile created by running the reader does not recognize my set bonus of 30 Attack Power from wearing both Seal of Jin and Band of Jin rings from Zul'Gurub. The set bonus is called Major Mojo Infusion.

Seal of Jin: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=19898
Band of Jin: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=19925
My Profile with both: http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?518969

My unbuffed ATK on the profile shows 30 less then it truly is in game.

Zum, It's saying that it can't write to startup.log. This means that either a second copy of Wowreader is already running, or you have startup.log open in another program such as a text editor.

You might try rebooting your computer and seeing if that helps.

So I just noticed that my profile hasn't been updated in a few weeks. I haven't changed anything with my wowreader install and it's still collecting/updating data with no errors. It has my username/password in the login info.

Has anything changed recently that might cause this?

Did you check and make sure the lua addon is still loading in-game? Instructions are in the first post of this thread.

Having problem updating my main character, like others. WoWreader will update my other characters, but not the main one. I tried deleting main and re-uploading, to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

ok, I just figured out how to fix this bug...in the addons screen ,for WoWreader uncheck and recheck it. Mine was checked like it was loading, but when I moused over it, it said "This program is disabled for some characters." I unchecked, rechecked, loaded WoW, ran Wowreader, works like a champ now.

I was looking through this (extremely long) thread, and couldn't seem to find an answer to this question: Is there any reason why the encoding of Wowreader seems to be ******** up special characters, making them into question marks? It looks kind of stupid on the character lookup page.

JonSchaeffer: Try closing out wowreader, then re-download and run the installer again.

Rale, i've tried everything you've said too all those who get the updater loop error, but, it doesnt seem to be working.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling after terminating the process through task managaer, restarting after an uninstall and reinstalling after the restart has completed but nothing seems to be working...

Any further ideas?

[EDIT] : Is there any way to disable the updater? The updater for wowreader that is, not the profile updater

I'm also having the "update loop error" since I had to reinstall wowreader (worked fine before), manually downloading wowreader.exe didn't help either. In the log file it says 127.0.0.1 is used as proxy, which doesn't make any sense since I'm not using my computer as proxy and there are no proxies set up for the internet connection. Where does wowreader get the proxy information from?

I feel stupid for asking but umm.. where do I find my profile ID? Everything looks like it uploaded ok, no login errors or connection errors. Its just not obvious where to find my profile id # and when I go to "Your Characters" it sends me in the god-death WoW Reader Download loop

Is it possible to get some kind of status on the Mac version of WoWReader? There's been nothing said on the forums for quite some time.

Is it a dead project?

Is it an actively developed project?

Is there anything preventing it from being released to the community for public development?

Will there be any kind of option to do manual data gathering and uploading for non-Windows players?

It would be nice to know if Mac users should look elsewhere for character profile tools.

Thanks...

I renewed my IP public IP address via my router, and since then have been unable to use WoWReader. I get a patch error loop: "Error downloading update: The underlying connection was closed: The remote name could not be resolved." Uninstalling/reinstalling WoWReader fixed the problem though. Why did it do that? Is it related to my IP? And how can I better address it in the future?
