So I have noticed that there are many movie and pop-culture references and homages in WoW. Thats one of the things i really love about this game. But I was curious which ones people have seen. I have not explored that much of the world yet as I have a complusive urge to complete EVERY quest in an area before I move on to the next.

So list any things you have seen that are homages to movies, other games, pop-culture in general, etc..

I will begin:

In the Warriors quarter of the Undercity there is a "Fight Club". There are 2 undead that are battling a series of enemies that spawn. These guys are named Tyler and Edward which are the names of the main character of the movie fightclub (actually you never find out his real name, but the actor is Edward Norton).

In addition the crowd of onlookers are named after other characters. But just the first names - thier last names are different than the movie. For instance there is a Robert (robert palson / bob), a Chloe (the woman from the support club), there is a Marla (the crazy pill-popping girlfriend), and a few others also.

But they all speak in gutter-speak. So if you want to understand anything they shout at one another then you will need to be undead.

So please list anything you have seen like this in the game!

There are many many of them in WoW - its part of the controversy over the WoW Naming policy. Players are not suppose to have a name that referrences anything in RL yet the NPC's often do.

I know I have seen a lot in my levels, but the one that I really got a chuckle out of was a fishing Dwarf over in Darkshores, he's like the Bubba Gump of Fishing.

On Fray Island (offshore from Ratchet), there's a man named, "Clannoc MacLeod." His title? "The Islander."

I don't know if anyone else has ever swam to Booty Bay instead of braving the jungle, but there is an island a few hundred meters out of Booty Bay that has a giant marble statue that looks just like the statue of Jesus at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, but with the head of a goblin. The island is named Janeiro Point. Smiley: grin

There is a fishing NPC on the coast near the inn, in Auberdine named Bubba Glump, or somthing similar to that. Needless to say, he knows about 1000 ways to cook the local sea life.

I have noticed a good amount and I really enjoy them. I think they add alot of fun to the game's world and link it to our own. :)

The most obvious one I have found recently, and that being the Pod Racers in The Shimmering Flats. Not to be outdone, Gadgetzan bears a striking resemblance to a Tatoonie Star Wars esq city. :)

A Boss in Zul'farrak named Gahz'rilla. (That one make me chuckle)

Uldaman is so much like Indiana Jones it's scary, topping with using the staff and head piece in the Map room just like he did in Raider of the Lost Ark.

Another Indy connection is some ruins in Stranglethorn, named Bahlia'mah which I believe is a take off on something in Temple of Doom with the cultists.

Of course, the most noticable pop culture reference in The Male Night Elf's dance - none other than Michael Jackon's moves.

Think it was the Ironforge gaurds when you ask about the alchemist - they tell you something about getting a savage headache the last time they were there, then why didn't I take the blue pill...

I loved that one. :)

This one's not quite pop-culture, but I thought it was hilarious. If you go down into the tombs below Raven Hill in Duskwood, you'll notice the area is named something like "Dawning Wood Crypts." I can't believe it's a coincidence that you could read Dawning Wood as Morning Wood.

Well on the topic of dances the nightelf is not the only one from pop-culture.

The Orc male dance is none other then MC-Hammers dance from the too-legit video. Now granted thats a bit dated for many people, but every time I see it I crack up.

The Human female does the Macarena.

The human male is pretty much John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever with all his disco moves.

The Dwarf male is the russian hop-dance.

The Dwarf female does the "River-dance" style irish dance.

The undead male headbangs and moshes - complete with devil-horns, air-guitar, and pure moshing leaping about. This guys seems to have the most fun dancing of all the characters IMO.

Actually, the male dwarf dance is the same dance that Fonzie did in the Weezer video.

The Russians invented that dance long before the Fonze. The Fonze is just the only american cool enough to pull it off and not look stupid :)

A Tailor To Cities.

That made me chuckle.

I always found Bhag'thera, the elite panter in STV to be eerily close to Bagheera, the main character panter from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.

The Hanzo sword. For those who saw Kill Bill, you should know what this is. For those who didn't see Kill Bill (what's wrong with you...), the Hanzo sword is the Bride's main weapon created by a man who carries the Hatori Hanzo bloodline. That jumped right at me when someone was offering to sell it :D

In booty bay there is a goblin named Scotty and his title is Chief Engineer. After doing a quest he will teleport you to gnomergon. Once in gnomergon there is another goblin named spork with the title away team. This goblin is also wearing a red shirt. For those that don’t know this is a reference to the original Star Trek series.

I can't believe no one said the /silly human male joke about the gnomes who find the braclet of power and they make a 3 part movie called the Ruler of The Bracelet with the first one called "The Fellowship of The Bracelet" and the second one "A couple of Towers" and a climatic ending with "Hey the King's Back."

I'll add another one...

There's an undead NPC in Thunder Bluff called Clarice Foster, obviously a play on Clarice Sterling from Silence of the Lambs and the actress that played the role, Jodie Foster.

You can pickpocket Dinglehoppers off of Nagas. There was one other Disney reference that I can't recall off the top of my head at the moment.
