I didn't even bother touching that because of one reason, tracking does not extend further then visual draw distance. It just doesn't. Not even at the lowest possible graphical settings.
Tracking has a range limit just like everything else and I'm sorry to say that it's no where near the range for graphical draw. Unless he's talking about cover and concealment in which case, sure! Go right ahead. If you're in a high flora, mountainous/hilly zone go right ahead. I won't, not by a long shot.
Why? Because in zones like that anyone, whether friend or foe sticks out like a sore thumb when running along. And since I'm sitting stationary fighting a mob, and have absolutely no need to be watching my pet go through it's fighting animation nor do I need to be directly watching the target to shoot it... I'm going to be looking around keeping an eye out.
Why? Because that's what you do in a PvP zone. If you don't look around, you're a moron. You're able to survive in pvp without any tracking in any other class why not in the Hunter class? It's not HARD. Rogues, Shamans, Warriors, Priests, Paladins, Warlocks, Mages and even low level Druids can... so can a Hunter.
The only tracking which you get as a Hunter which is absolutely invaluable is tracking hidden. Plain and simple. So if a Hunter wants to keep up another tracking feel free. But you're gimping yourself in the end.
Note: This is, and has always been, in refference to contested/enemy territory, not safe zone hunting.
