Glaives and Fist weaponsFollow

#1 Nov 21 2004 at 12:58 PM Rating: Decent
I am curious to know what class of weapon the glaives used by the Elf Sentinels fall under. When I was travelling through the Elf lands I fell in love with their style/look and wanted to try them out with my rogue.

I also have considered fist weapons for my rogue, but I have searched around and they seem to be quite rare. I am sure they do not work for backstabbing, but I thought they would be interesting as an offhand weapon.

If anyone could shed some light on these two topics I would appreciate it.

Glaives are polearms arent they?, i might be getting confused but i always thought a glaive was like a spear that was meant for cutting and slashing. In that case it would be a polearm, i have yet to see a PC with a polearm but im guessing they are in the game somewhere.

The glaives he is refering too are the tri pointed weapons carried by the sentinals in the WC3 game right (dont know about in beta never made a NE). and yes it is actually a spear with a slashing tip...dont know why they made em like ninja stars.

Needsmoresleep has the right of it. I know they are historically polearms, but Krull goofed everyone head on that back in the 80's. Really my point here is to think outside the standard dagger/dagger or dagger/sword dual wield.

There's nothing wrong with dual swords or dual maces, sure you miss out on backstab and ambush, but your Sinister Strikes will be way more damaging. Plus, if you go mace, you get 6% chance of stunning (when you max out mace spec) on each hand. Slice and Dice that and you've got some evilness going on.

However, a lot of Rogues don't like it because it eschews the whole sneaky sneaky bit (which isn't true, it's just that you're less reliant on getting behind the target to do damage).

As for Fist Weapons, Polearms and all other sorts of fun gear, I'm sure they're saving that for retail.

No my friend trained in fist weapons and was gonna buy one somehwere in undercity, but at the time we were like 10th level and a fist weapon was i think 26 silver. We had just all trianed and bought stuff so he never got one, but theyre there just gotta look in the diff towns. Oh and that weapon the sentinels use, i would think it would be more of a range weapon, because even though theyre melee its really a short range weapon. At least thats how it is in WC3

I've found a spear off a mob once and I've played about 2 1/2 months of beta. I've never seen a fist weapon drop. They will probably be in retail, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

There is a hand weapon merchant in Ironforge so this would lead me to believe there are other hand weapon merchants about and drops of said items.

The "Glaive" mentioned in the original thread is a referrence to the thrown weapon in the movie Krull. The Nightelf guads carry a three bladed knife, or thrown weapon, that resembles this movie weapon. I have not seen one for sale or gotten a drop that had this graphic.

There is also a crossbow merchant, but that doesn't stop crossbows from being very rare.

to avoid confusion i'd suggest calling them Moon Glaives, since thats what they were called in the game.. or was it war glaives? one of the two im sure.
i have seen in trailers elves with the demon hunter style two bladed swords though and they appear to be fully one handed, so makeing a charicter to look kinda like illidan isnt so far fethed.. of course youll need to work out the bat wings demon horns and hooves yourself :P

What was the name of the weapon the Hero class "Warden" used?

I wonder if Warden would be a hero class for a NE rogue...

wow!.. that would be so damn cool. i didnt think of that, but yeah warden would be a neat class hehe.. :/ still if a demon hunter is a warrior or rogue class, i think warden would be a hunter hero class.
after all what do wardens and hunters do? hunt of course. ^_^

I used a fist weapon in my offhand for rogue around lvl 26. Blue item that dropped in the stockades instance and had about 6 more dps then my daggers did. Was great for offhand dmg and poison because it has high speed

As it seems many have done I have also been thinking outside the shadows so to speak as far as my weapons of choice. At low lvls I was constantly getting stunned by mobs using blunt weapons and wondered if this was a passive effect of blunts or just a mob only special much like clawed beasts constantly slowing you as you try and run away.

I was really kicking around the ideas of Dagger/Mace or Dagger/Fist just for the fun of it. Then later I saw the weapon specialisation talents that allow for stunning along with other passive sideaffects of weapons used. These will only really be available much later down the road so I will be training all available weapon styles to my Gnomish Rogue so I can try many different variations.

As to the availability of Crossbows and Fist weapons, I found Shops that carried both but I'm guessing they will be more available as drops and such in retail or shortly there after. These seem to have been put on the backburner which is understandable since when I did wield a Crossbow the firing model had the Crossbow 90 degrees out of rotation pointing it at the ground when being fired.

The Moon Glaives if ever available I would think them to be a Very High End Quest Only Binds when picked up item. I agree they would be extremely nice to wield though.

as of this moment, there ain't no in-game gaives... as far as i know. if anyone is curious about what these are, just check the guards around most ne settlements, b/c the guards usually carry them... they're the massive tri-pointed star with slightly curving blades.

wowzard has some cool character renderings... the weapon in the clip is meant to be a glaive... but it's not quite right (too small, for one thing)
