Channel and Combat log windowsFollow

#1 Nov 17 2004 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
How many of you like the channel and combat logs the way they are?

I think they need a bit of a tweak. Usually if someone talks to me and I'm busy fighting a mob, I won't even notice. That's mostly due to all the General chat stuff that scrolls nonstop in the window.

Also, I can't ever seem to find a good spot for the Combat window. I try dragging over to the bottom right corner of the screen, but then every time I go to click on a bag or something, I end up grabbing the window again instead.

Just wondered what you guys thought.

What I do is increase the resolution when it comes to text, thus making the text smaller. This allows me to actually summon my bags without getting in the way of my combat log. Give it a try, it's in the system/interface options. :)

Create an extra tab for the general channel only. Might want to toss the trade channel on that also. I used to leave general, but with it on another tab so that I don't have to read it unless I feel like it, it's kinda nice.

Another thing you can do to keep from dragging your windows is to lock a window after you move it to the right corner. I've done that all the time and have never had problems since then. I tend to turn up the opacity a bit as well so you can still see through the window, but can actually read the text.

How do you turn up the opacity? I looked in all the options I could find and didn't find it. Thanks.

click on the button that shows the box with the current window color.

Overall, I like it. Separating the combat window and normal chat window is a must. The degree to which you can tweak the filters is awesome, but I think some of the options are counter-intuitive at first. For example, to turn on (and color-change) any grp member healing me, I had to turn on "hostile buffs". Why a grp member is flagged as hostile I'll never know, but once I found it I was happy. Sometimes I change too many colors so that when I see a color in the window it doesn't automatically trigger what kind of info I'm seeing.

Wouldn't mind being able to move some of the other windows around (like my hp/mana pic thing, and the minimap) but those are minor things. Good idea about adjusting opacity

Does anyone else not bother looking at the Combat Log? I personally don't have a use for it...

I haven't paid it any attention either. All the buffs/ailments that affect me are represented by icons in the upper right corners. The numbers that popup above the mobs head tells me the rest.

I put it up in the oposite bottom corner than the chat window and let it sit there with the lowest font(which takes some squinting on a high res). It helps if I miss something.
