SATA+SharkBite on a level 80-82 Wyvern (Chatlog)

THF Weaponskills Video

THF is a great damage dealer in FFXI and I wouldn't doubt that it's a great one in WoW as well. I think it would take a certain type of player to play a class that comes to a fight with small weapons and light armor. I don't think the THF class is a joke, but I do find it funny when enemies seem to forget about that sneaky ******* with the daggers. =)

when you play rogue you get to use duel weld... yes sure war and hunter can get them at level 20 but...

you don't get the 50%less damage + the miss rate that seem like 50% !!!!!

rogue is the BEST, yes BEST dps melee class...

war... not even close (we are talking about over all dps)

hunter... pet damge + range damage < rogue. this could be since there are not many good range weapon... but when I play hunter i find that rogue out damage me :D no biggy :D i love my pet

pld... war out damage them, but healing is cool :D

oh btw this is wow forum right?.........

Red Lotus Blade (PLD)> 47 dmg
Shoulder Tackle (MNK)> 300 dmg
Skill Chain > 25 dmg
Shark Bite (THF) > 1150 dmg
Light Chain > 1400 dmg
Burst MB (BLM) > 1200 dmg

The mob died within 10 seconds later...

Ok well I (was) a 75 paladin 72 Monk on Valefore, before I got a job and had to spend time in the real world. Thief a joke class? Hmm hardly I think. When a thief does Dancing edge + sa/ta for over 1600 damage about 2-3 times a battle, if thats a joke class, then i think DRK, MONK, Ranger, drg etc. are absolutly pointless... i mean a joke would be an upgrade to those right? As far as DPS, yea they may be slow dealing only 40-70 damage per hit at higher lvls, but who cares? every 1 min they are dealing 1600 damage, on top of a 600+ bonus Light/Darkness skill chain... I think that somewhat makes up for it. Only BLM and ranger can out do a thief in sheer damage, and that takes an 8x hit of sidewinder/slugshot or a blm using Firaga III on a MB.... Im sorry your just a ******.

Wow, who was that WHM you partied with? I recently landed a 1200 damage Shark Bite with additional 1600 light damage on an IT crawler, so I'm wondering who this WHM is that can match my damage.

"Special abilities way later in their levels" says it all. You can get a THF from 1-30 easily in one weekend. I'd rate down, but the filter settings would kick in, and nobody could see your post.

Rogues get the penalty of 50% less damage in offhand and a 24% added miss rate, but we have no option to use 2handers so there is no reason not to dual wield.

EDIT:Can we stop with the needless bumps of people posturing FFXI thf hits? they have no use here, yes we know thfs are good, it was quite easy to tell the original poster was rather.. dillusional, but it has now gotten to the point where every FFXI thf has to post what they do on average with attacks, im sure there is a post circling around in the thf boards on FFXI site to post this sort of boasting.

*Coming from a former FFXI player and a WoW Beta player for 5 months*

Rogue could be considered the equivalent of the FFXI Thief. However, they're really quite different playstyles. Thiefs relied on getting behind their opponent, and without a group, they had an incredibly difficult time even farming. Rogue moves are mainly done in the front of the opponent, and for the few that require you to be in the back, you can easily accomodate for it by using one of the many stuns that a Rogue has. A Rogue is a great solo'er, which i'm sure is refreshing for whomever played a Thief.

As for the top damage dealer, at the moment it's a trade-off between the Hunter and the Rogue. Hunter used to be quite far behind, but with their talents finally in, a proper build allows them to do incredibly steady and powerful damage at range, oftentimes even outdoing the Rogue. They're both excellent classes if you want a damage dealer, and i'd recommend trying them both out to get a feel for which playstyle you like the most.
(ie: If you liked Beastmaster and Ranger, go with Hunter. If you liked Thief and Ninja, go with the Rogue)

are you saying that i have to be the same class from the time i start WoW till i quit? that's news to me. last i checked, we could make new characters for no extra cost.

we can even (/gasp) be a different race for a different job we wanna play

Rouge seems like a very cool class, but reading it over reminds me of Thief for FFXI. Thief is the joke class of FFXI.

They do terrible damage and rely on two special abilities that they get way later in their levels. Without those two abilities (Sneak Attack & Trick Attack) Thief would be nothing. Personally, with the cool down time of SATA Thief is a waste of a class and a huge joke in a party. Theif does as much damage as a White Mage (FFXI healer class). Which did less then 10 damage points per hit. That is really bad.

Is Rouge any different? Is Rouge the answer to FFXI Thief?

Speaking as someone who played a Thief in FFXI (and quit in frustration), I still think you're being a bit unfair to them, and to Rogues in WoW. Thieves in FFXI were hardly a waste of space...I'm guessing you never went past 30ish, as I've personally seen what can happen to non-Paladin tanks in FFXI that don't have a Thief to support them by adding hate. Also, as a thief, I can personally say that I was dropping very nice damage on the monsters, and unlike other damage dealers, I wasn't distracting from the tank when I did it. Later, as a Black Mage, I could definitely see from watching the damage counter that the thief wasn't really falling that far behind...BLMs get resisted fairly often in EXP parties (INT is for damage, not accuracy, and I had a capped Elemental Skill), and Sneak Attack, when used properly, can go off 2-3 times during a fight.

Rogues in WoW, on the other hand, are even more fun to play, though having gotten one to 17, I was having doubts about what they were good for in a party. They draw aggro very quickly though, so I guess I must have been doing some damage. I do like that as a Rogue, you feel like a sneaky ******* almost from the start. Thieves in FFXI don't get invisibility from their class until level 45.

I would note that both Rogues and Warriors typically outdamage Mages in WoW from what I have seen and heard. Mages are in need of a boost (that they will eventually get) because they have way too much downtime and aggro control issues. They just run out of mana to quickly and have to stop when everyone else keeps going. Of course, high-end equipment doesn't help them as much as it does melee classes either.

I do expect it will be fixed at some point.

I don't know...at lower levels (I didn't make it past 17, despite my best efforts), Mage was dropping some very nice damage. Not to mention that they can conjure their own food and drink to decrease downtime.

At higher levels, especially the really high ones, it takes minutes to recover their mana, and while they do nice damage when they have mana, they just run out too easily. At the upper levels past 50, it can take 2 drinks to recover all of their mana as well.

Hmm, I read one poster on Blizzard's forum that had an interesting point too. The Mage shouldn't be double penalized with a harsh armor limit and a harsh hitpoint limit. Rather the hitpoint should probably be twice as much or so (right now it is 1/5 of a Warrior's at high levels). They still take a lot more damage from attacks because of their armor. I must say this does seem to make sense, but I also admit I don't have experience with mages that are that high in level.

Dont play Rouge if you dont know Thief in FF XI.

They are basically the same... the hate controller.
Thief is a great party member... need I say more? Many people in this thread has pointed that out.. but I just want to add in that the poster of this thread is THE joke :P

I didn't see much in the way of hate control with Rogues, or at least nothing as specific as Trick Attack. I had feint, which was useful for losing aggro after I'd taken it, but that's not quite the same thing as what Trick Attack does...I can't choose where I'm putting the aggro. Also, Rogues have more infiltration abilities than Thieves, because there are actually quests that require infiltration. Yes, both classes are similar (they'd have to be), but they're from different games. An FFXI thief is a very specialized killer, while a WoW Rogue is more of a general ne'er do well. ;)

Dear god I am glad that video doesn't accurately reflect the percentage time devoted to each activity you must do in the game.

Hmm, is it me or are some of the action sequences sped up?

Good god people, let it die already.

EDIT:As to stop with the inane bumping, I'm just going to edit.

From now on any rogue who says "rogue" as "rouges" shall be now refered to as ragu's. Good luck on being a tomato sauce.
