Who knew, you can Jack and instance for someone. I found out the hard way and did it twice tonight. Sorry team, I really goofed WC for ya.
If someone dies, and you fully loot the quest mob, they can not rez and come back and get the item. No idea this was the case. So for others, be careful.
Anyhow, the other thing to look for are closed beta testers. So as a newb, I had no idea. But one of the team members told their bud Ruri, Undead Priest, and they proceeded to ream me. They were not even in the instance...anyhow, learned my second lesson, some people are closer to the game than others and can make it suck for newbs, even when you make innocent mistakes. So, I reported and am quitting WOW for a bit. Have fun and be careful.

If you are in the instance and the mob dies, you can loot it until the corpse expires. You must have been a ghost when it happened.
I think you mean to say you must NOT have been a ghost. You must physically see the mob die, so you can't release spirit beforehand.
Only the exceptions can be exceptional.
I don't see this as a reason to quit playing the game. It's a bug, report it to the Devs and let them fix it.
