Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that people use General Chat Channel 1 to whine, complain and criticize the game?
I don't mean constructive criticism either. There is plenty of constructive criticism, which is fine - I mean that's why they have Betas.
What I'm talking about in this post is the people who come on and just *****. "This [insert game change] sucks. It's SOO [explative]. [explative] Blizzard" or "I can't believe the game still crashes! Blizzard [explitives ...]" Etc., Etc.,
Those complaints I disagree with in principle. If you want to play for free before the final release, then DEAL WITH IT.
I don't know about everyone else, but I think it's just stupid. First of all, we've been invited to play a game for FREE. Starting in 2 weeks, we will be paying $.50/day for the same privellage. Second of all, the game is in VERY good shape for an MMO approaching release. Other MMO's encountered far more serious problems at release.
The other kind of complaint that I can't stand for a different reason is the "Leveling is too slow"/"Death is too harsh" line of complaints. It's probably just because my MMO background consists of a year of FFXI that I think anyone whining over these things is clueless.
Anyway... No matter what - Chat Channel 1 - General Chat is NOT a place to whine and complain. It is a good place to find people to party with, buy/sell items, and other game related functions. Using it to whine is just gonna annoy everyone else.
I can't wait to get into a good guild. Do people in guilds generally turn off channel 1? I like chatting in it, but due to the recent increase in whiners, I've been tempted to turn it off.

No worries, they'll be gone come retail. No use buying a game they think sucks. Though the most amusing thing is that some of the whiners will buy the game come retail! Oh how that makes sense is beyond me...

Cause secretly they're enjoying the game and they just like being attention whores.
And I hate seeing sell spam in general chat 1, thats what auction chat 2 is for.

Well, whining is part of the entire MMORPG package. People whine because the game is fluid and so they expect the changes made to be exactly what suits them...everyone else be damned. :-)
Actually, some whining is valid. There are those who need help...have had a bad experience or have a beef that is legitimate, and the general forum is a good place to vent.
Some whining is constructive because it helps to teach those who need instruction about a facet of the game (for instance, a whine about people kill stealing can help bring out a discussion of the subject).
Whining about gameplay, especially basic tenets of the game is what irks me. Someone launching into a gripe about "why can't (Blizzard, Verrant, SOE, etc...) change the way X works. Wha wha wha".
AND...the number of messages related to getting open beta keys, keys not working, downloading...stop already. There are about a zillion people trying to download all at once. It is going to be backed up. If your life is so wrapped around a game that you cannot think of something better to do while you wait then to get online a ***** about it...well, you should stop video gaming altogether and see a counselor about getting your life back.
Damn, now look...I whined about them. ;-)

I didn't even realize that (and I'm guilty). From now on I'll use Channel 2 for that and snub my nose at those who use channel 1 ;)

Yeah, we all know how nice it is to have a trade channel when you're in the middle of Ashenvale, right? God knows how many times I got rid of items while out in Desolace too. Please know what your'e talking about before you criticize someone...
The problem with Channel's like this is they reach the entire zone. At least with FFXI you could escape out of range of shout spammers. Kinda shame that I have to /leave 1 all the time.
Kids do need to realize that this is a beta and compared to some betas, this has been pretty smooth. This is the major downfall about a casual gamer MMORPG. You get casual gamers.
