Couple questions...Follow

#1 Nov 07 2004 at 10:55 PM Rating: Decent
1. How and what level do you need to be to participate in a raid group?

2. Are you supposed to make money off of tradeskills?

3. How do you do instanced missions, like the BCNMs in FFXI?

Thanks.

I can only answer one of the questions since im not really familiar with the others yet since im not in the game yet.

2. With tradeskills, they are used to gain $$$, but can also be a money sink at the same time. Example would be Leathercraft, you choose Skinning as your other profession. You fight some enemys and skin them for some light leather, you use Leathercraft to make a piece of armor. You sell it on the Auction House for 3 silver. Some look at it as a profit of 3 silver, while others will look at how much you could of sold the individual skins for. Its all about playing the market to make some $$$. Another "profit" of tradeskills would be the benefit of outfitting your characters with armor / weapons you have made on your journey.

Gathering professions seem to be more profitable, but once Retail comes, it 2,000 people on a server do Skinning, the profit is gonna drop. All about finding a hole in the market, good luck. Kinda long, hope it helps.

1. In a technical sense, you could join a raid group at level 1. That doesn't mean the other people will let you participate. So the answer is, it depends on what you're raiding.

2. Theoretically yes. In practice, no, unless it's a gathering skill or you're a very cunning entrepreneur.

3. There are blue swirly portals where instances are. All you have to do is walk into one. Your group will join you in that copy of the instance, but anyone else will end up in a separate instance. Any time your group status changes (the people in it) while everyone is out of instance, the instance will reset.

I really think that any of the tradeskills can be profitable if you just go about it the right way. Currently on the beta servers, the only thing that makes money right now are gathering professions because of the huge amount of people at endgame who don't want to invest the time into gathering lower level items. Things such as Herbalism are a perfect example of this. When WoW goes retail, there will be more people joining every day/week/etc, so there will be more lower to mid level characters that will want to purchase things such as mid level armor that can be crafted with Tailoring/Leatherworking/Blacksmithing. Only time will tell, but I can tell you one thing, the current economy on the WoW beta 1 server is completely screwed over.

Well one this is sure IT IS profitable compared to FFXI where you had to buy the component for recipe and they were costing like twice the price of the final item. In WoW I rarely have to buy something to do my recipe ( Im enchanter & tailor ) except some little thing but they cost 10c which is very minor price.. (two beast give you that amount of cash) and the Item I sold to the merchant give me more.. so.. I do make some profit... its not a lot... but money for now is not rare.. unless you don't do any quest.. as they are the better part of my incommes.

While we are talking finances. How does the money system work? I have yet to find an explanation on it. I notice items that look like gold and silver, but I can't tell whether they are the same as a D&D game or not.

In WoW there is Copper, Silver and Gold. Each item will be one hundred of the lower denomination. Pretty darn easy to keep track of thankfully.

As far as leveling Enchanting, I found that it was quite expensive if I didn't want to spend hours on end farming lower level instances for lower level green items to disenchant.

Higher level enchanting is ridiculiously expensive, things such as small and large radiant shards go for incredible costs. I currently have 3 large radiant shards hanging out in my Bank that I could sell right now for 30 gold. I'm only holding onto them because I would like to get a firey enchant for my mainhand weapon. Seeing as how the higher level enchants now need more regeants, I can see the costs of enchanting going through the roof. Paying 50 gold for a firey enchant is terrible in my opinion.

Also, I remember reading about this durablitiy for items? How exactly does that work? Sounds like its going to cost in the long run.

Durability for your items goes down as you use them, and all items you are currently wearing lose 10% durability when you die (100% if you rez at a graveyard). When an items durability reaches 0 you gain no benefit from wearing the item, but it will come back at full effectiveness after repair. Currently it costs me about 6 silver to repair my equipment at lvl 18 after a few hours of fighting and 1 death. The rate at which durability decays do to normal use has been reduced with the addition of death-based decay, but I'm not sure by how much.

So, you can repair them. Interesting. Alright, thanks alot. I have to sit down and read the instructions later. I have only skimmed through it, but some instructions never really help.

Oh yeah, to repair items just go to any weapon or armor merchant, and there will be a picture of a hammer and an anvil in their trade window. Click the hammer and click an item to repair it (useful for fixing stuff in your bags so you can put them up for auction) or click on the anvil to repair all of your currently equiped items.

Lately, I've been reading up on tradeskills at the official board and people say that anything you make will never be as good as drops gained from quests. I imagine some of this might be true but I still believe you can make money off of certain crafted items.

I think the tradeskill that can make the most money is Alchemy. Potions are gone forever once you use them, so people have to keep coming back for more and buying more of your products. The higher level potions and even some of the lower items have great buffs to add to your character. Once the game comes out, I'll probably go with Alchemy+Herbalism. Might even go along with my rogue's poisen making ability.

Go rogues!
