WoW Graphics Card HELP!Follow

#1 Nov 01 2004 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
I'm waiting for Wolrd of Warcraft to come out on the 15th of November, but my graphics card sucks and the rest of my computer rocks. Im changing it to a ATI Radeon 9600 XT, do you guys think that should work? The WoW site says better than GeFrce 2 which i think the Radeon is, but I just want to make sure.

I do believe that Radeon 9600s are like the very minimum required cards for games like Half Life 2 (I do recall a Radeon 9600 saying it's recommended for HL2) All I have to say is that if it can play HL2, it sure as hell can play WoW ;D

Yeah I got a Radeon 9600 Pro, and I run FFXI on it w/o issues. Definately a good card ^^ and I think the XT is the Upgraded version of my Pro actually, but not 100% sure of that

I know this thread's done, but I just want to point out how silly that sounded.

The Radeon 9600XT is a budget card from 2004. The Geforce 2 GTS was the top-of-the-line card... back in April 2000. The Radeon 9600XT is a very capable video card (too bad I upgraded already), it's better than any Geforce 4 and a lot of those 5000 series Geforces. :P

...And you can Overclock it too!

Seriously though, see if you can track down an old Radeon 9700 Pro or 9800 Pro, they're better performance than the 9600XT and they're not made anymore, so they'll probably be cheaper (if there are any left).

...over clocking a graphics card.... is not a good idea unless you have very good cooling.... 2 or 3 fans will not do the job... water cooling will work... but over clocking GC = death (soon or later)

Not really, you can get a small boost in performance without sacrificing the life of your video card. Hell, it's even built into the Catalyst drivers (Overdrive feature) nowadays. :D

while everyones chatting about graphics cards, could I bug you all with a question or two?

I'm soon to be receiving a new PC, the graphics card I have ordered is the following...Radeon 9550 256Mb AGP + DVI/TV Out... is this going to cut it for the new generation of games soon to come out? Ie Half Life 2 etc? How long am I looking at before I have to upgrade? Or should I have choosen more expensively?

Thanks heaps if ya answer my question!
