I saw a movie of a warlok fighting a monster. The only problem to me was that the monster and the warlok were hitting eachother the same way.The warlok kept on hitting the monster with the same diagonal slash each time.Is this normal? Will Blizzard change this? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't judge an entire combat system off one movie.

Would need more details about the particular one you watched. Attach a link to it?

More then likely it was just someone hitting the monster the same way over and over.

The combat is very different for every class and race.

K, got movie to work.

Yeah, it's someone hitting the same move over and over. Bad example of a Warlock since the person isn't using any spells or abilities, just swinging the sword over and over.

I'm asking this because in ffxi each race hit the mob at least 5 different times.
O and are you the all mighty seoman from the FFXI forums?

Yep, that's me.

I'm kind of confused by your question.

Are you asking if there's only one "attack" motion? That each time the person hits attack, there's only one motion the character performs?

Actually I just watched the clip and they showed THREE combat attacks. The most common attack I saw was a "back-hand slash" with the dagger, but I did see "forward thrusts" and a "Forward slash" or two as well. Not counting the spell I saw cast.

Normally I wouldn't expect to see a Warlock doing almost nothing but melee fighting, but as I said, when it did, I saw at least three definately different moves used. That doesn't mean there aren't others as well, but being more of a spell casting class I would expect more from the casting than melee.

When it comes to combat animation, improvements have been made. Look at the date this video was taken, it was back in March. Quite awhile, eh? Since then, quite a few patches were release to fix up and improve on what was presented.

There are a few more recent videos online. Try checking the main website and in the pvp forums. A few beta testers from those forums enjoy putting up their videos while talking smack ^^

Well warlocks dont really have any combat oriented fighting moves. So they will only have a couple of different animations for fighting while as opposed to a Warrior who will have a buttload of different animations because he has tons of combat oriented fighting moves.

I also think it varies per race/class/weapon combination. Tauren Warriors jump in the air and slam their weapons straight down when doing Heroic strike with a two-handed sword yet with a one hander it is more of a vertical NE to SW slash while they are standing.

Wow, that warlock was an idiot.

O_O

...

Anyways, he used some spells, however, most warlocks summon a VW, or Imp to take hits while they launch DoT's at the enemy. The guy you watched fight the crocodile was some disoriented moron with epilepsy (or somewhere along those lines), and Kerik was correct he did not use the same motion everytime.

Every race has (at least) three basic animations for a given weapon. If you stand there with auto-attack on, that's what you will see. However, special attacks will have a different animation.
