Well, welcome to the heavenish realm of the WoW boards. Please keep your hands to yourself and you will not be bitten by trolls.

As for races doing similar jobs, such as the orc shamen vs tauren shamen deal, the only thing that will make both characters different will be racial traits and how they arranged their talents. There is no gimping when choosing a race for a certain job.

As for changing jobs, you can but we really do not have much info on it. You see, at lv 60 (the cap, btw), characters can try to get their hero class such as demon hunter and blademaster. As for the job you begin with, you're stuck with it until hero class. Not like thats bad because you can arrange your talent points to make a class within a class such as a rogue with an assassin build or a warrior with a fury build. You can mix it up and spend points on all 3 specs but its up to you.

There is barely any difference in the stats for every race when it comes to choosing a class. http://thottbot.com/ here is a valuable site for the stats on each race for each class.

There is virtually no difference between a Tauren shaman and an Orc shaman. The only differences are racial special abilities, not all of which are in the game yet (but are relatively minor). Statistically speaking, the differences are only 2-3 points, which matters not at all by level 10, let alone level 60. Any legal race/class combination is a good one.

As stated above, you can't switch classes during the game. You also can't switch professions (formerly known as trade skills). However, if you realize you don't like the class you chose, it's very easy to roll up a new characer. The first 10 levels take a few hours to get.

One thing I noticed was the Hunter's Hit Points. The Night Elf's HP's are a good deal below the other races. While Night Elf Agility is higher, as is Intelligence, they only seem to yield a small difference compared to the large difference in hit points.

On the bright side, Hunters shouldn't really be taking so much aggro in PvE so that isn't a HUGE deal. Night Elves SHOULD though have a mana difference of a similar amount but they don't. The difference between one race and the others is only a few points(as list at http://wowvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Stats.View ). I hope at least the higher Agility makes a difference.

Only focusing on the Hunter right now as that's the class that's important to me. I am curious what all the racial special bonuses will be. I know some are in, but many are yet to be firmly added. Humans had bonus skill points, but now skill points aren't even in the game. All in time.

This is because night elves have a lower stamina. Stamina = HP.
