I got a question!

Okay, I am positive now on being an Undead Rogue, however, I was just thinking, and I wanted to know if any of you testers have tried a Tauren Druid, I thought that would be a good combo, due to, the bear form is all about strength/ power and a Tauren is strength/ power.

I dunno, Tauren Druid, or Troll Shaman were my two next choices under Undead Rogue, I just wanted a little info on the both? Maybe ^^?

<EDIT>
Also, I was wondering, do potions in WoW act as a onetimeuse, or, do they have an amount that they can restore? Such as in GPG [Gas Powered Games]'s Dungeon Siege a minor healing potion I believe has 200 that it can restore, and you only have around 49 health [when you start out] I think, so, you can use it four times, whereas if you were level 10, let's say, you would need a bigger potion to fill you up four times.

I hope it's amount, cause, if I go through all the work of getting some "Elixir of insert ******** here" and by accident use it, or one of my friends IRL goes on my account while over my house and want to see what I got and use my potion that took me some number of time to make I ain't gonna be too happy..

Short Version:

Q. Does the potions have an amount that it can restore, or onetimeuse?

Gihja - nobody can climb trees and there are no ladders. A druid form lasts until you remove it.

Creamed - A Tauren is just like any other Tauren and a druid is just like any other druid. There's very little to be said right now about specific race/class combos. In fact, there's very little at all to be said right now about races aside from different starting areas and *slightly* different stats. If you want specific info related to a single class *or* race, I can maybe be of a little more use.

Potions are one-time use, like most games. I really like the way Dungeon Siege handles it, but potions are not so powerful in this game that you are going to make use of them 4 times before they're used up anyway. And they do have a required level, so you can't give a superior healing potion to a level 1. Also, most potions have a cooldown timer, meaning you can't use another one right away, because they are supposed to be for emergencies. (Speaking specifically for health and mana potions.) Potions that provide buff effects, yes you could probably spam click them by accident, but it's pretty hard to spam click something you don't have linked to your hotkeys.

Um actually I know for a fact that i saw a FAQ IN wow.warcry.com that you can climb trees, it said some.

It says in wow.warcry.com that in PvE servers you can pvp in 10% of the continent can anyone clarify this and tell me where exactly besides the 6 major cities.

Hey guys, great thread.

I was wondering is it common/possible to "waste" skill points?

That is, are there poor choices for skill point allocation, as in Diablo? And if you make a mistake and put a point in the wrong thing, can you take it back?

Also, is there freedom of stat point allocation?

Sorry if these have been asked before.

Way to plug a competing fansite, Gihja. You know that FAQ on their site? It lied. You can't climb trees.

Larodar, arrows are very cheap and can be purchased from general vendors. Currently there is no trade skill to make bows or arrows (they hope to implement it eventually) but you can make guns and bullets with engineering.

tricky, it's impossible to waste SP, as you can always untrain what you just trained and get all your skill points back (you just lose all the skill you had there) but it's slightly possible to waste talent points (more like the skill points in D2 than SP are ;) since Blizzard plans on making it a tough ordeal to retrain talents so that people don't just retrain on the fly to suit the situation.

Currently in beta there's a free talent retrainer since Blizzard wants people to test all the talents without fear of being gimped.

compete lol your really sensitive man. Look i am really getting tired of your posts.
Just because i name a fansite doesn't mean that i am trying to advertise or anything i was just trying to show someone that i wasn't just thinking about cool things the game could have and just ask nonsense. I wanted to tell the person i actually saw it so then no one will tell me im lying. WOW what a big deal it is to post about another site it's not my problem. I'm sick of how you answer my posts and now i don't give a damn about your site. Fanboy

I'm not sure what I'm a fanboy of, or what my site is, but I did answer your question (half of it, hurray.) And your information was incorrect. So can I tell you that you're lying now? Please?

Hey JAEFo, I have yet again another question... And I think I may have asked something along these lines before, but I'm not for sure, so here goes. Even if I had, It'll be like a 2 line answer for a guy like you. OK. I want to be able to go around, with my other 2 friends *both rogues* and be able to easily complete quest that are our own level. Meaning, I don't want to go have to get to a much higher level than the quest was intended to be done at, because of the kind of party we'll have. *Like, I dunno if 2 warriors and a rogue, could survive what a warrior, rogue, and a priest could. Ya get me so far? I mean it said that basically any class can *solo* so I assume any 3 classes can party effectively, but I just would like somebody to clarify that for me* Anyways, What would be the best class to be, to help the party get by, if my friends are both rogues. That's my first question. ^^ My second question, is if I want to be a warrior anyway, even if it's not the best choice, how can we make that work? Would we need to make one of our people a really good alchemist to make me potions constantly? Or should I be that alchemist myself? Now that's just keeping me alive during the fights... But even if i live, I guess i'm gonna have lots of downtime.. As it is, i was thinking of taking up, smithing, and mining, and possibly engineering, for my warrior. But to reduce downtime, since we're not going to have a preist in our party ordinarily, should i scratch the engineering and take up like first aid? Thanks alot for your time once again JAEFo. Incase you don't visit this forum often, I'll post this in the ask a tester thread too. I hope to hear from you soon.

Also: If I go warrior, where should I put the magority of my *points* or whatever to get skills? Should I use a sword, and sheild, *for blocking and extra defense I guess, because i'd imagine i'd want to be as beefed up defense-wise as possible, since i'll be grouping with 2 rogues...* and then put most of my *points* into the defence stance, skills? Thanks again, And I'll be waiting for your response. :D

Any two classes can easily solo a great majority of quests of their level. What classes you are won't be a problem. The best tradeskills for warriors are cooking and first aid. First aid during the battle, food for after, bye bye downtime.

You should decide where to spend your talent points based on how you play your warrior. It'll be easier for you to figure this out once you're actually in the game, I wouldn't worry about it right now.

Gihja, I'd respond to your post but I don't quite understand what you're saying.

First off I wanna thank JAEFo for starting this thread up even though people have a bad habit of not looking here to get educated or tend to argue about things that they really have no knowledge about.

lol Seriously, Gihja, I think you are better served just searching for your own answers then asking questions. You really don't take answers all that well. JAEFo pointed out that the information from the source you have provided was wrong and yet you reacted in a poor matter. The reason JAEFo was a little angered by the posting of the site is simply because he does not want misinformation to spread. I bet he still bangs his head against the wall whenever someone mentions "official release dates" provided by game store sites.

Now on to my question about beta.

We all know that the big patch that brought about the coming of the hunter class and many changes to existing classes was met with very mixed reviews from beta testers. Most complain that the game itself has steer towards a hardcore "EQ" model. Whether this is the case or not I wouldn't know since I'm not in beta but I do know that Eno (One of Blizzard's many soldiers that fight back rabid testers) stated that there may be a bug when it comes to combat.

Anyways, on to my questions:

1) Has the game geared towards a harder model from your experiences or are these beta testers just a bunch of whining ******** (...okay, we know they are but I want to know if their complaints have merit)

2) My soon-to-be class, druid, had problems in the past but have recieved major changes post patch. I was wondering if you heard from other druids about how the class works. In other words, were the changes met with positive feedback?

3) How does hunter fit in a party setting? Are they strictly a pet class or are they a dmg dealing class similiar to rogue and mage?

Once again, many thanks and congrats to those who takes the time to answer questions. Remember, fellow nontesters, they're here to help, not to flame ya to death. Keep it clean and you'll get respect and an answer back ;)

1) You mean is the game hard? Right now it's pretty easy, as leveling is set to go fast, skills are set to go up very quickly, and such and things. It's not a hard game, but that's what really makes it so enjoyable.

You're not spending seven minutes whittling down one mob for a millionth of a bar of your experience then sitting down for 7 more minutes waiting for your health to go back up. Constant action, constant rewards, constant fun. So yes, they're a bunch of whining ********

2) The changes this patch were what the druid community has been begging for for ages. It is a serious buff to druids and a step in the right direction for the class. They still need tweaking, but hey, so does every class.

3) The Hunter offers damage and one unit crowd control (pet distracting one mob) to a party. Really we're a warlock with no soulstones to a party right now. I hope to see some of this tweaked, but I myself am satisfied with where the hunter is right now. On the PvP front, when they fix some bugs, hunters will be quite deadly.

JAEFo, I have yet another question if that's ok... I was looking on the WoW beta page, and I was looking under the warrior class section, and something started to bother me... The *Taunt* ability was listed only under the defensive stance ability list...

Am I missing something, or does this mean, In order for warriors to be able to hold hate they have to use defensive stance? Or Until levle 26 anyway, when we get challenging shout? The only other thing I seen was the hamstring attack, in battle stance, but on allakazham, it said that it only kept hate on you for 6 seconds. >< You already know my situation, about the 2 rogues in my party.

I was just wondering, If I will be able to keep monsters off them, So I can take the magority of the blows, and it not mean as much as if they were, without being an all out defenseive warrior?

Thanks again for all the answers you've given me. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you again. :D
#145 Aug 25 2004 at 6:40 PM Rating: Decent
Taunt is only available in the defensive stance. At one point, I beleive, there was an item that carried the taunt ability(kinda like how some boots boost speed/slow enemies etc.). However, I think that this items was changed, and no longer has the taunt effect.

Even still, if you are a warrior in your group, you can be in battle stance, switch to defensive stance and taunt, then switch back. That process takes very little effort in my opinion.

edit: I also have a question for JAEFo, have you participated in other blizzard betas? How did you get on the "It-list"?

MAJOR! MAJORITY! AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!

Different stances for different situations. When you're tanking for a group you'll want to be using defensive stance. For all-around skills or soloing you use battle stance. For pure offense, you go berserker stance.

And when you change stances, you lose all your rage (warrior's "mana") but there's a talent to let you keep a certain amount of rage (something like 5 rage per talent point spent) while switching stances.

Yolindy, I never made it into the beta. I'm sharing a guildmate of mine's account. But shhhh, don't tell Blizzard ;)

He's a friend of a buddy of mine that I used to play Warcraft 3 with all the time. He's now in the same future World of Warcraft guild I am in. One of the few guys in the guild who actually got into beta.

I heard they were gonna implement ghost quests for when you die and you're in ghost form, is this true in beta? I'm guessing this probably won't be implemented till after retail and a few updates. But it'll be cool to know. Also can other people see u in ghost form? And do you lose XP?

trickybeck - Please keep in mind that SKILL points are not TALENT points. Refer to my commentary on that earlier in the thread. There is no stat point allocation any more.

gihja - take anything Jaefo says lightly. He has a tendency to be a little brusk at times. Everyone has hot buttons; his are just very accessible (when is open beta?) and produce very noticeable reactions.

Dave - if you're going to try to be optimal, a warrior will be able to take the damage that the rogues cannot, or a paladin/shaman might be able to and also do some healing and utility. A druid or priest could heal and do damage from the sidelines; I suppose a druid in bear form could even tank. But you should be whatever class you want to be.

If you wanted to play a warrior without a healer around, you should make sure you have plenty of food, bandages and/or potions. All can be tradeskill made. Food can be bought as well. Potions are the only ones that can be used DURING combat, but they have a cooldown before you can use a second one. You may want to consider trying to get someone in the group with Baking, First Aid, and Alchemy. (Not necessarily the same person.) Then when fighting, just make sure you as the warrior are the one getting hit most of the time. Warriors have taunting abilities to handle that.

I'm not going to tell you where you *should* put your points, since you need to see what you like, but if you're grouped with 2 rogues, there's a good chance you'll want to orient yourself defensively if you want to optimize. Defensive warriors almost always use a shield.

Redmoonxi -
1) the game is harder. Players haven't adjusted to that yet. They're used to killing level 23 creatures at level 20, rather than having difficulty killing a level 20 creature. There are some genuine bad things I think Blizzard did in this patch, but a majority of the problems are just player adaptation, and I have no doubt Blizzard will adapt to the rest.
2) can't help you. I didn't like druid myself, and the druids I know have been playing hunters lately. ^_^
3) It's kinda hard to say right now. Hunters in an all-hunter group do just fine, but I haven't grouped with anyone who wasn't one yet because there really isn't anyone below level 30 that isn't playing one. Ask again in a week.

Dave (2) - defensive stance is the stance for being beat on, not dealing damage. A defensive warrior tends to generate less aggro from non-taunting methods, so he needs taunt to be effective. A battle stance warrior can generate more hate from dealing damage, etc.
I wasn't aware hamstring had a taunt effect. It's supposed to be a snare.

Lance - that was rumored at once time, but I haven't heard anything about that recently and it isn't in the game, so I'm guessing that fell by the wayside.

I've heard of one ghost quest implemented so far. I believe it's in the Blackrock Depths instance (the latest instance, intended for levels 50+)
