Quote from: Nethaera (Source)Today we’re pleased to introduce the Pet Store for World of Warcraft, a new way for players to obtain in-game pets to join them on their adventures in Azeroth. Two brand-new companions are now available for purchase exclusively at the Pet Store in the online Blizzard Store: Lil’ K.T. and the Pandaren Monk.

Make a Difference: Pandaren Monk Charity Pet
Enter the Pandaren Monk, ( http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000763 ) a martial-arts expert who’s here to help celebrate the upcoming fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft. He may be cute, but he’s proof that even the softest of critters can overcome the hardest of circumstances. For every Pandaren Monk that finds its way to a player’s side between now and the end of the year (December 31, 2009 at 11:59 PDT), we’ll donate 50 percent of the $10 purchasing price to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in an effort to brew up a little hope, strength, and joy in a child’s life.

Lil’ K.T., the Littlest Lich
Lil’ K.T. is a miniature lich who bears a striking resemblance to the legendary lord of Naxxramas, Kel’Thuzad. But don’t let his diminutive stature fool you: Lil’ K.T. has a diabolical laugh and wields true power at his bony fingertips, randomly wreaking icy havoc on critters who dare to cross his path. You can now buy this new pet for $10 on the Blizzard Store. (http://us.blizzard.com/store/ )

In order to receive a purchased pet, you’ll need to merge your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account. For more information on Battle.net, please visit the FAQ. ( https://us.battle.net/faq/index.html ) For more information on the new Pet Store, visit the Pet Store FAQ. ( http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=29845 )

Just bought mine woot! Got both and donated to charity. Clever Blizz.

Edit: Too bad my server is down until 1:30 lol... I will have to wait until after work to play with him.

I love the way Blizzard calculates currency.

$10 in the US and €10 in Europe.

You could get 1½ in the US for the price of one in Europe.

Edit: I still bought them, of course.

Half a Pandaren? Icky!

And yes, that's pretty silly.

It's always been that way.

It's the same with pretty much all PC hardware too, although it often even costs more € than $ for some strange reason.

I must have this for my drunken Shammy. Smiley: grin

I'm not so crazy about the mini-lich, zapping critters sounds fun but I don't really like the look of him... maybe once I see a video of him in action, I will change my mind.

They sucked me in as well. They really should have made 50% of Li'll KT proceeds to charity as well.

Lil' Kel looks pretty cool. And after hearing it freezes lil critters, I might have to get it. Panda looks awesome. So I might get them for a early chrstmas and birthday

I personally love Lil' K.T. His features a "childish" so he looks like a baby lich. And he makes the cutest "hissing" sound when you click on him, hehe.

Definitely my new favorites pet.

...I am... unsure how to feel about this turn of events.

As a long time MMOer I am a fan of subscription based gaming. I do not personally care for micro-transactions, because I don't like the idea of having to pull out my wallet every time I hit a virtual brick wall; whether it's because the Free-to-Play has segregated the world or progression or what have you. It ruins the immersion factor and I just prefer to have the whole "world" open to me, able to go about doing whatever I please, whenever I desire. Not that I believe Blizzard will suddenly turn to this method, just explaining my general feelings on the matter.

Now I see a lot of people saying (wow.com, oboards and mmo champion - totally buzzing) that Blizzard has been has been into micro-transactions for a while now with their name changes and realm transfers. ...Well yeah technically, you're right. I don't lump those together as the same thing because I see it as a service that goes above and beyond the subscription price. It's a convenience because in all honestly I could spend the time and just re-roll a new toon on a new realm as a new race/faction with a new name.

I also see the discussion point to the TCG loot, this just cuts out the middle man. As you could spend 4 times as much on random card packs and get nothing or hit e-bay for the card of your choice for much more. (...Oh baby Hippogryph, how I shall never know your companionship! ; ;) I understand this, I always looked at these items as beyond my grasp. As fun as it it is to grab a couple cards packs every now and again the chances of actually getting something are relatively low.

There is also the price, $10 seems a little high for a pet. Now the Pandaren, I think it is a exceedingly good idea to partner with a charity and I'd buy one for that alone. The lich which doesn't appear to be linked to a charity just seems pricey in comparison. (Of course, easy answer. I don't have to buy it. ;p)

I highly doubt that Blizzard would add items of power, I think that would alienate a huge portion of their population and go against their own philosophy...but with all my rambling (sorry!) am I the only one who thinks Blizzard may be entering a slippy slope? Getting the feeling that they are trying to have their cake and eat it too?

Pets today, mounts tomorrow? Items, Storage, Gear, Weapons? When does that line start blurring to much? It just sort of gives me this weird feeling, that I don't think I can accurately describe despite all my mental meandering.

And it's a lot less ridiculous than the kind of prices people would be paying if they were released as loot cards for the TCG, plus they're much more accessible.

(Yes, I actually have a Hippogryph Hatchling. Woo, go me. >.<)

I wish they'd done this earlier instead of handing out pets to people who can go to BlizzCon and buy trading cards and such.

Was thoroughly pissed when I found out that they made a Tyrael pet and didn't make it available to everyone. He was my favorite video game character for such a long time.

Pets are so kool ZOMG !!!

With that out of the way ... f*** buying them. $10 for a noncombat pet? Ripoff. Despite the charity bit, which is the only redeeming quality of this announcement, I despise the decision/direction this Pet Store points toward.

The micro-transaction marketing system (used in DDO, which I'm slightly familiar with) is a different way to play your game. It's a different setup for a different game. That's what makes that game work and essentially become "tailored" to each player, thru the elements they buy.

This bit of marketing by Blizzard just screams a kind of subscriber "exploitation" that up until now I (and others I'm sure) thought Blizzard was choosing to steer clear of, taking the high road as it were. Dunno why I'm surprised. :(

So it's come to this, an in game item store.

The charity idea is great, they should have linked the KT pet to a charity as well.

This is just another thing on blizzards current path of maximizing profits, nothing wrong with that. The second they offer a store with products that give players who pay for them real game affecting thing (more powerful items, exp boost) that's the second I stop playing.

Lighten up, they have stated it's only for vanity type stuff that does not affect game play. You don't have to buy it.
#18 Nov 04 2009 at 6:00 PM Rating: Decent
I do love the pets, but sadly I do not have the money to buy them right now. Hopefully they'll still be selling them in a few months. That said, I do hope they don't go beyond selling frivolous game items through the store, because yeah, having the ability to buy items that make you more powerful would be completely unfair and it would probably make me want to stop playing.

This. I can't justify buying the pet(no matter how much I want it). But if it were part of a charity thing...well, I just might be able to convince myself it's worthwhile.

And £9 in the UK, which equates to €10. Oh wait...

However, they don't use the same exchange rate on the whole store - the Authenticator is £4.80 or €6.

Blizzard is weird.

Both of the pets are really neat, and I think the charity component is a fantastic initiative.

I'd have to say, however, that the cool factor is greatly diminished when you're surrounded by swarms of the new pets in Dalaran.

I bought them, two for me and two for my kid. I'm thinking of it as an early Christmas present. :)

And I didn't buy them to look cool in Dalaran, I got them because they are adorable and I like having cute mini-pets with my characters. I don't care about the rarity of anything in the game-I don't sit around in Dalaran in rare gear on a rare mount just to get attention, and I don't envy or even really notice those who do.

I can't afford any of the TCG items, but I can afford twenty bucks.
