Are there any potions, essences, or anything else that I can use in a battle to replenish my health some? I've looked in the items section but not finding anything.

You can usually find "Essence of Regneration" and "Essence of Health" potions on the broker. There is also a quested item in Jarsath Waste that has a nice clicky heal on it Unglued Alchemist's Amulet (must be wearing it, but does work in combat).

I'm sure there are more items but those are the only ones that come to mind.
