Or is collections a project for high lvls who, I'll presume, have found giant bags?

Are you gathering shinies just to sell?

Once you use an item for a collection, it's no longer in your inventory. You don't have to carry them all around until you find all the pieces. Just right click the collection item and tab will open in your quest journal where you can "place" the item. Then it's no longer in your inventory.

But if you're keeping them just to sell, yeah, it's going to take up a lot of bag space.

Giant bags (and boxes) aren't just for higher level characters. Even if none of your characters include crafters who can make bags and boxes for you (tailors and carpenters), you can begin to purchase larger bags and boxes any time you'd like. There are pages of bags and boxes for sale on the broker and most of these can be purchased for a reasonable price. Just remember that since there is a new bag and a new box (actually 2 of each - 1 common & 1 rare) in each crafting tier, when a new expansion comes out, avoid the new 'largest' size of bag and box which will fetch a premium price!

Are you examining them as you go? Any you can use will be removed from inventory when you examine them and add them to a collection.

You can use huge boxes on the broker for storage, you don't have to price things and sell them if you don't want. And if you have a home you have vault slots you can use for storage like your bank (check the /house menu).

Ok, thanks. For both answers on the collectables and the bags. :D

If I sold my colectables to a vendor will I ever be able to find that item again?

Yes, though it may take some time to find them again, depending on their rarity.
Also depending on when you sold them, you may be able to buy them back via the buy back tab.

Also, the only collectibles I ever sell to a vendor are the ones that are selling on the broker for 3c because there's 4 pages of them. For quite a bit of the collectibles, you can get a few gold, and in some cases a few plat.

So if it's a shiny you've already collected, check the broker before you sell it off to a vendor.

Beat me to it. You have a random chance of any collectible available in the zone you saw the shiny whether you've already added it to a collection or not. If you check the broker before you vendor dump you'll see some going for nutso prices; this can mean either rarity or temporary scarcity.

But when there's 11 pages of one collectible? Trash.
