I never even thought we'd submit them from home. I assumed we'd go to their facilities.

Of course it's possible I just want a tour.

And beyond the quality of the mic (quick show of hands - how many folks out there currently own a large diaphragm condenser mic?) things like background, traffic and air conditioning noise would probably render most recordings beyond salvageable.

/raises her hand! Still have my old steadfast Sure SM58 :) Oh wait, that's a dynamic mic. Still have the hi/low impedance adapters for cheap PA's too.

Hehe. If you ever want a tour, and you're in the area... ping Ashlanne over on the Station Community Forums. She might say yes!

It must be in my job description to rain on your parade :-)

Highly unlikely they would have a recording studio at SOE/EQ2 headquarters. Even just a dedicated voice over booth (with a simple hard disc recording system and a small mixer) would run them a good deal of jack... (probably somewhere between 50 & 100K. Hell, a decent microphone alone will set you back about $3,000!!!)) so I'm betting they would just contract with an existing local area recording studio should the need arise. Come to think of it, they probably recorded the voice over here in LA since there is so much talent already living locally. And that would mean an LA studio...

In any case, I hope you get that tour...

When I took the tour there was a small room for podcast recording, but I didn't see a sound studio.

Right on Calthine!!! An SM58 (we used to call them "hammers") gets you into the club but sadly it's not a condenser let alone a large diaphragm condenser. And while hammers are clean enough for live sound they don't have the range to capture human voice well in a controlled environment.

You do however get style points for having one (I still have a few in my mic locker - they're great for micing up electric guitar amps) and you get bonus points just for knowing that it IS a dynamic!!!

These days, a 1 inch sputtered-gold large diaphragm condenser mic (like a Neumann U87) will set you back around 3 grand... but a hammer is still only about a hundred bucks!
