Hey guys ... played EQ II shortly after it came out. While I really enjoyed the game, a number of issues (one: the inability of my necro to solo effectively) drove me back to EQ ... I keep hearing that "EQ II is so different as to be almost another game from its original release" .... is there a good place to go and check on all of these changes??
Actually there are currently five places you can go to check out the changes, and very soon there will be a 6th one added.
If your going to be playing a necro again, you have three.
Freeport Starting Island, Darklight woods [Neriak], and I can't remember how to spell the one for Timmours Deep.
I do not know how far you got your necro before, or if you still have it, but you may want to go and start up a new one given the massive amount of changes that have happened since launch, infact recently SoE redid on of the first AA tree for all classes. Thats right, we have AA now, slider and everything, and can start earning them at level 10

I've been an off and on player since release. And yes, the game is almost a totally different game than it was at release. All for the better, IMO.
I don't know off hand of a place that has listed every change over the last few years (maybe eq2players.com and read some patch notes?) but it might be a good idea to start a new character so that you'll get a better feel for the game.

First off, welcome back - I'm actually about a week back myself. I stopped playing shortly after Kingdom of Sky was relased.
I also tried to read up on all the changes (went to the EQ2 forum and read the patch notes) - but felt in the end it was just better to try the game again with fresh toon.
I've really enjoyed the return so far - chugging out a few Tradeskill AAs for one of my new toons (he's level locked at 15 with full blackened iron gear - so he runs through blues, whites, and yellows with ease). Now I have 15% chance to harvest twice when I harvest a node.
I'm sure in the future I'll look back and be like "wth were you thinking" but for right now being able to level my tradeskill faster is important.
And while going through some stuff I opened my LoN packs and got a ring that gives 15% bonus xp for 1/2 once a day!!

Rolled another Necro ... Bownz is on Kithicor. Everything looks great so far and I'm excited to see how they've implemented AAs, etc.

Welcome back to EQ2. I'll just echo everyone else the game is 5 yrs old and very different from when it first came out. It would be too hard to list the changes. Best thing to do is what you're doing: come back with a fresh slate and try it out. I hope you enjoy it 
As a necro, all your major stats come from your int, so emphasize that when choosing gear. Even your pet's badassery is based on your int.
