Pet agroFollow

#1 Oct 17 2005 at 8:30 AM Rating: Decent
I was in BlackBurrow yesterday with a small group, fighting the spiders that have several small "hatchling" spiders that come with each big spider. My pet kept drawing lots of agro from the little spiders, which got it (then me) killed a couple of times. I made sure to not send the pet in right at the start of the fight, but the agro built up real quick.

Are there various tricks to reduce the agro generated by pets? My first thought is that the debuff proc of the pet was maybe generating the agro. Also, is there a "/taunt off" command like there was in eq1 for pets?

In the last patch they made pets more efficent as to serve as a tank. In addition, many summoners (like me) who solo have a whole lot of an easier time because the pet can keep aggro as you can heal and nuke from behind. To answer your question, no there is no command to keep them from not taunting, but if its really annoying you when your grouped then I recommend just not having a pet except when soloing.

Each pet has different abilities as such:

Earth/Tank - Has a AE taunt, high hit points and low DPS. Best for soloing ^^ or higher.
Aery/Scout - Medium armor and DPS. Best to solo normal or heroic mobs.
Fire/Mage - Low hit points, high DPS. Best to solo normal mobs or when in a group.

Select your pet according to your situation.

In the old days (before the revamp) the Earth pet was the only viable and usable pet. Now, all pets are very good in certain situations. And when you get your past pet of a line (i.e. level 38 is the last earth pet you get) make it Adept III.

In a group, always use offensive stance unless you want your pet to be the tank. When a pet is in defensive stance, it will out taunt all the tank due to the proc. Once the mob has turned it's attention to the pet, a tank will not be able to get the agro back. A pet in offensive stance is the way to go for grouping.
