Questions about new(ish) additionsFollow

Ok, I was browsing around on the official forums, and came across this thread about "Champions": Champions Thread. Can someone give me some more info on what these are? They seem to be kind of like Pokemon-esque "collectible fighting monsters" (as Pokemon was mentioned in that thread, too). They seem really interesting! A few questions:

1. So you fight these in an arena, correct?
2. People talk about the arenas sometimes being empty. So they are already in? Are the ones that are already in the ones that Champions will fight in?
3. Are Champions already in? That thread was a lil over a month old.
4. If they are in, what do you have to do to get them? Are they in DoF, or a seperate addon package?

Ok, enough questions for now :P I just thought they looked neat, and have been trying to find some good reason to get DoF, being as how I am still dangerously low level, and want to find something that will apply to me immediatly in DoF. Thank you very much!

1. Yes, they are creatures you obtain, train, and become them when you fight. Unlik ePokemon where you stnad on the sideline, now you actually become the creature with it's abilities. You can also choose to fight as yourself.

2. The Arena is in the DoF expansion pack (US$30).

3. Not sure.

4. Only in DoF will you find the Champions.

Keep in mind that DoF is designed for levels 50-60. The city is very dangerous, unlike Qeynos/Freeport. There, the guards can actually attack you if you are in the wrong part of town. And since factions and control of town areas change, a place that was safe yesterday may not be safe today.

Did I mention the city wizard-cops that patrol the skies on flying carpets and love to blast unsuspecting players?

OK, Tut... stop tryin to scare the lad...

DoF is perfectly safe if you are willing to be careful and not charge blindly into every alley and behind every building.

While it is true that there aggro citizens (mostly gambelers and thieves), they are static mobs and can be avoided by lower level players. Just don't go poking your nose into places where you shouldn't go. (Like behind buildings and into alleys.)

The guards will not attack you unless you are of an opposing faction and since low level characters can't obtain let alone complete any quests in the lvl 45+ zone, it is unlikely you will be able to aquire any faction at all.

The flying carpet guards are also unlikely to attack you unless they catch you fighting in the streets and hello - you are going to avoid fighting lvl 51+ mobs, right?

I take both my 36 warden and my 27 ranger to DoF all the time and have been there with a 26 fury. The city is really cool and the arena is a blast!

I have only been killed once while tooling around in Maj'Dul and guess what, I was poking around in a back alley and encountered a thief. My fault, dead in 3 swings, end of problem!

The champions are available for a paultry 6 silver each (there are 4 available models), purchased from a merchant standing outside the entrance to the arena. Anyone can start an arena which is an instanced zone for you and all those you wish to allow in. The arena can be password protected and you can choose to allow or not allow outsiders to come in and watch the match.

You can play one on one or team style and there are several games to choose from including capture the flag and steal the idol.

You can also set up various victory and playing conditions like length of match, number of scores to win, time between matches etc.

And finally, there is no penality for dying in the arena it's all in good fun.

IMHO - DoF is just about the colest thing they have done in this game yet and I think they have done a lot of cool things!

This has changed slightly from when the exspansion first came out. Your first champion is actually free for talking to the guy to buy the from. Also you can go and put it in your house and it walks around in there :>.
