i want to come back but....Follow

#1 Oct 03 2005 at 8:40 PM Rating: Decent
Im sure this has been beat to death but I noticed in some patch notes the locked encounters are gone. Thats one of the 3 things that i just cant seem to get past every time i start playing.
The other things are linked mobs that can be a good distance away and still come running, and the TLC. I dont know anyone now that plays eq2 and any dungeon like bb i assume i got no hope of getting to the bottem while the mobs are green, hence no loot :/
Think any of this will change? Im totally fried with WoW but i get a fealing like i can do much more there. I know ill be beat up on this but any thoughts/rumors out there? I also feel like im playing with a bunch of 12 year olds....
thanks for any info

You can choose to have encounters locked or not through the group options menu.

The first one to engage the mob (solo or group) will get credit for the encounter. And you need to do 51% damage to get it. If someone "steals" your mob after you hit it, they will get no exp or loot. Neither will you since you lost the mob, but there is no incentive for them to do it.

I have seen offers for high level tanks to be the out-of-group tank so the rest of the group can kill it. I have also been the out-of-group healer for some lowbies that needed to take on a hard mob.

I have also had the pleasure of doing driveby heals and SoW's on anyone I see. :)

So far I have seen no problems at all since the whole climate has been raised on locked encounter, effectively grooming everyone to leave encounters alone. You will find the same mature and helpful crowd in EQ2 as before.

But who knows, maybe now that the rules are relaxed, you might see someone "come out of the closet" and become a ganker. But in the end you will still be able to get your mob. Just hit it first and do most of the damage. And if you see someone ganking, just report them and they will get dealt with.

I take my 24 Warden to BB and things are still green. The Captain is no pushover, but he still drops nice loot. And the fast way to get to the bottom of BB is to jump down the hole where the waterfall is. You'll be right at the leel where the Spider Chick is.

Not sure what TLC is besides tender loving care. Or the famous 3-girl pop group from the 90's. Remember, they did the Crazy, Sexy, Cool album.

Everybody sing with me!...don't go chasing waterfalls...

And finally, agro has been adjusted to make things a bit more dangerous. But that what makes the game fun, more danger. Nothing worse than grinding to 60 with no challenge. I miss the days of being chased all the way across a zone in EQ1, fearing for my life the whole time. :)

Just stick to the rivers and the lakes that your used to...

Smiley: lol Good stuff Tut. Anyway, gratz on 700 posts!

TLC = Trivial Loot Code

This is actaully a good thing and I don't know why people complain. It stops everyone from farming mobs if they are too low for them. As everyone knows, you can't get a chest from a gray mob. Imagine if there was no TLC. Everyone would be fighting over the same mobs. There are some mobs that have body drop quests that do not fall under the TLC. The Lightbringer Wisp in the Commonlands is one. It has a body drop that starts an HQ. Also, Stiletto in TS has anonther body drop HQ starter.

To the OP, your loot will be fine. You can't expect to get to the bottom of any dungeon without a group. It just isn't gonna happen. You still get decent gear and drops from regular mobs. And you should be able to take out ^^ mobs, which will give you good loot, too. Just try to stay away from those ^^^ mobs until you get accustomed to the combat system. Also, pick up the Splitpaw Saga adventure pack. At level 20, you can enter here and the whole zone will scale to your level. Nice loot in there, too.

thanks much on the replys! This is one of the things i miss about eq2 and eq1 for that matter is the maturity. WoW is like millions of 12 year olds! Ya i do see the problem of farming but i just dont like the idea of having to do things before the mobs grey out to me. I guess its not like i go back in WoW and farm in low lvl areas anyhow. what bout the linked mobs? they still got that going? i use to pride myself on being a good puller, now that dont seem to matter i guess (i know different game lol) I guess i would like to survey a situation and deside, use timing perhaps harmony :) thanks again for the info and thoughts

P.S. im a fan of the lock encounters being gone, i didnt explain myself to well i guess but i like the freedom to toss a heal on someone if they need!

Some mobs are linked (aka Group), and when you click one, all the linked mobs in that group will also light up.

Unlike EQ1, the mobs are not social. Meaning, you can pull 1 mob through a bunch of others, and they will not agro. So pulling is still a breeze.

Some mobs have larger agro ranges than others, you just need to try each one out and find the sweet spot.

And when you do agro something by running past it, it will only chase you a short distance before giving up and returning to it's place. So no more, "TRAIN TO ZONE!" Remember when you engage something, your run speed goes to nothing and all speed buffs go away. Now that you are slowed down a bit the mob will hit you a few tims before it gives up.

This is true in most asspects. However I have noticed if you are fighting a fairy in EL and they are normally not aggro to you. During the duration of a fight they may not show up as agro mobs on the screen but they sure come running to help out the one you are killing. Its not exactly linking I think as temporarily lowering your faction to them and they are withing agro range. Thus I stopped killing fairys.

The good thing is, obviously, by the time things are gray to you, there is no need to fight them any more. Also, with the mentor system, you can still get anything you want at any level. If you need something in a lower zone, people will usually let you mentor them so you can try to get it. The one you mentor gets a nice increase to their xp, so they shouldn't complain. And, for the most part, you can do quests even if the mobs you are killing are gray because they don't actually "drop" the quest items. They auto-update.

True, but...

This is also true. You can pull mobs through other mobs, but if you happen to get into aggro range of a normally indifferent mob of the same faction as the one you are currently fighting, it WILL become aggressive and attack. Case in point: Centaurs in TS.

I wanted to come back as well. So I did. =D Played ~1 hour last night on L d'Lere. I decided to start from scratch. Don't feel like respecing my higher level character and learning how to play him after the nerf/evening/whatever. I'll still use him to make my jewelery though.
