Advice for someone newFollow

#1 Sep 09 2005 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone,

I am new to EQ II, just bought it the other day and I am blown away at how detailed the game is, and how much there is to do.

I am not new to the MMO world though (AO, AC, EQ, WoW (Which I must say, WoW is the most over rated/ jerk filled MMO ever))

Does race matter, or should I just pick what I think looks best/has the best sight?

What is the game flooded with? I'd assume scouts, but its good to know.

Adventure packs: Which ones are a good idea? I know 5-7$ doesn't sound like much, but when you live on your own in a bad economy, thats like 40-50 noodle packages...

I prefer to play on Role-Playing servers, Which one is the best for deep RP (My thing is, if I wanted to play a game, I'd go play playstation... If I wanted to be in the game, I'll play an MMO)

I love the idea of Monk Classes; But is it a good choice for someone who has no idea whats going on?

Thank you for your time.

I am Currently: Foil level 5 Fighter - Luclin D'Lere
And Senik level 8 Scout - Luclin D'Lere

Race only matters as to what you want to play with. Although there are ofcourse some limitations, if you want to play an evil half elf, that will take a lot of time. But it is possible to do so.

I'm not really sure what the game is flooded with, it depends on server to server I guess. And I'm not sure if there are actually classes that are abundantly present.

Adventure packs come free if you have station access subscription, but that's about 22 USD I believe, 7 more than just the EQ II subscription. They aren't necessary to have, just a little bit more content but especially when you are just beginning not really needed.

No idea on the RP servers, never really had the guts to try one myself.

And if you want to play a monk, just do it. You'll learn to play it, the game is very detailed with help and there's no better way to learn something than to just do it.

I could be wrong but I think if you went to EQ2 Players and looked at what classes are in the guild you could get a better idea of the break down. http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/guild_index.vm

I am not sure which server is the roleplaying server but if you selected it and then looked at the largest guild you would get an idea. Under the rankings > world view, select a server. I would look at the guild with the most members to get a good idea.

I don't think race or class matter as much as they did in EQ Live. Your two choices for starting zones are Freeport - evil and Qeynos - good. You can switch home towns in the betrayal quests around level 14 - 17.

My eldest son (age 23) wanted a monk and with the freedowm of race and class choice, he settled on a gnome monk. He liked the idea of being a mini mighty wall of defense. For my main I went with a dark elf bard and betrayed to Qeynos.

I think that if a monk is what you want you will learn how to play him/her. Preferrably I with go with you are most interested in playing other wise it won't be as enjoyable.

Not really.

Pick a half elf, choose evil.

Aah, lol, I thought half elf was one of the races that could only start in Qeynos.

My mistake.
