How does Tanking work in EQ2?

In FFXI you had Provoke.

Is paladin the tank in EQ2?

There are many fighter classes, and all can tank in EQ2.

All fighter-based classes get Taunt and variations of it in order to hold agro. Certain fighter subclasses hold agro thru spells, others through better taunts, and others through more damage. Certain fighter subclasses can be healed more efficiently by direct heals, others through heal-over-times, others through what they call reactive heals.

The trick is for the group to spend a minute talking about how they will fight before they start pulling, and virtually any combinations can work.

Hail all,

As Benjiyardo Scholar said, you can virtually tank from all fighting classes. And it is so important to find out how your group is going to approach a fight. For instance, I would normally taunt a mob several times to make sure he stays on me, so healer only has to heal one person instead of four. Also this allowed other fighters to complete their HO without me interrupting it. But it is nice that all fighter classes can taunt, as sometimes we had two people taunting if the mobs were a bit tough - since taunting isin't restricted to one particular type of character.
