Not nearly as much. If you think the difficulty is at all comparable, we must be playing some entirely different games.

I've had more disbands / vote abandons from Alex in the relatively short amount of time it's been out than I ever had in all of the CT dungeons, combined. The vast majority of the time, it was due to somehow not putting out enough damage and either hitting an enrage (most of my experience in T1) or just getting outright overwhelmed by mobs (T2).

Can you think of a CT run you've had that failed due to lack of damage?

The allagan bomb in CT.

This is less of a damage issue and more of:

"Hey..the demons are kinda feeding the bomb...get it the **** away from it and spread out."

There's no actual "enrage" timer for that fight.

A fight from the CT era that is indeed based on lack of damage is cerberus. If your DPS is trash and they all end up getting killed by the hecteyes because they didn't damage the stomach walls enough, it auto rages.

The Atomos fight from WoD is also damage based. If you have 1 or 2 alliances not able to get back on the platform, they explode.

Way back when it was released, I had a significant number of wipes on Behemoth due to low DPS. Some people had their i90 by then, but most folks were still in i50-i70.

If that was actually enough of a problem in order to occur continuously with the same group, there's always the solution of... y'know, sending in a tank to hold the hecteyes. If it was really THAT bad you could even send in a healer along with them.

What I tended to encounter though, for the early era of WoD... at that point it was usually accepted practice to send one whole party into Cerberus rather than just send most/all of the DPS across the entire alliance inside. Meaning you had a tank and healers in there. So you usually didn't have the hecteyes running amok and killing people. Hecteyes deaths actually tended to happen more often later on when tanks/healers were getting told not to go in Cerberus in order to leave more room for DPS to get in, but even if this was a recurring problem for a group, most would figure out that the issue would likely be alleviated by sending a tank in.

Basically, CT gave you ways around these sorts of problems. If you're hitting enrage on A1 though (which seems easy enough to do, there is a level of DPS check in the fight that NOTHING in CT approaches), there isn't really a whole lot you can do other than replace the DPS or tell them to "git gud" or something or other.

That's an "ignoring mechanics" problem, not a DPS problem, though :/

(And that fight will never hold a candle to LotA's Atomos, by the way. LotA Atomos is one of the most baffling things in this game to me, in terms of how many groups flub it somehow despite how absurdly simple the encounter is. It is literally just pulling trash mobs that come at you one at a time; it doesn't get much simpler than that, yet it has to be the one encounter in the entirety of CT that I've wiped at the most.)

Are you sure it was lack of DPS you were wiping to? I didn't know that fight even had an enrage.

I've certainly had wipes there due to people ignoring adds/mechanics, but that's not really the same thing

If you choose not to worry about Alex drops at all, I assume you either don't have many jobs to worry about or you are happy to wait a while to fully gear up just one single job?

No, I play everything. It's more so because Alex is a ******* pain in the *** to run for gear that's not even the best anymore.

I actually did stuff like the Crystal Tower raids (which offered similarly tiered loot, stuff that was just 10 levels under the max from weekly-cap tomes or the current iteration of Coil) because those raids were actually reasonably *beatable* even with randoms.

With Alex the only thing I am usually beating is my head against the wall.

Right I see what you mean.

I have to say since first time clears, I've had a relatively smooth run except for Alex 4.

Will also add, this week (last 6 days) drops have gone smoothly. DF people seem to be slowly catching up at least for me.
