I don't know why people can't say "I love FFXIV in general, but I HATE this cash shop move!" Some people can but a lot of people think they gotta defend the whole package or nothing. IMO Thayos hates the cash shop for example and won't admit it (sorry just my opinion). Like, "I hate this cash shop, but I love this dev team, so I'm gonna go easy on them."
I don't hate the cash shop.
That doesn't mean that I like it, though. I'd rather there be no cash shop at all. I don't like the bickering in the community, and I'm not a fan of the gaming industry's entire micro-transaction movement. However, this cash shop simply doesn't interfere with how I play the game, nor does it contain anything I'd want to pay for. So, in the end, I'm mostly indifferent to it. I'm definitely not angry or upset about it... and if I were that upset, I'd take a break from the game (and the forums, other than lurking to see what's new).
If this is how the cash shop stays for the long haul -- with very few cash-exclusive items, and everything else available in-game before going into the shop -- then yeah, I think SE probably got this about as "right" as a P2P/RMT hybrid model could possibly be.
Of course, my feelings could change depending on how the cash shop changes in the future.
This isn't just this forum, but sometimes the "typical" forum-user mindset is that something has to be really, really awesome or really, really terrible. If you don't hate something, you're labeled a fan boy. If you don't love something, you're labeled troll. It's kind of a manic way of thinking, and I just don't get it.
